I'm surprised so many people in other communities are hating on Akida's technic build. Not only does it make Akida the largest of the creatures in terms of body size, but it also means no exposed ball joints, and gives a very classic look.

Then again everyone hates on LoSS and Scorpio too so I am wondering if people just hate the technic bionicle sets.
>>
>>5278953
Can't hear those guys over the sound of 130+ parts in a ten bucks Bionicle set.
>>
>>5279033
120 pieces

Still fucking absurd.
>>
>>5278953
>Scorpio

The technic complaint doesn't really apply to him, when his worst part is the CCBS section of his body. There's a really ugly mix of the two building styles and instead of blending together they instead sit separated on the set between two halves.
>>
>>5279049
Personally I feel like technic in contraction sets is best used where Technic forms the main body structure of the figure and CCBS is used for the limb pieces (as well as to cover up the gaps in the technic bit).

I agree that Scorpio's mix is the problem, I feel like they should have come up with a better solution to attach the tail to the body (would require some reworking but would have resulted in a much nicer set).

Though personally what truly bothers me on Scorpio the most is his claws, which just dont make any sense to me and I wish I could think of an easy way to fix them.
>>
>>5279033
>>5279038
Wait, where did you guys get the part count?
>>
>>5279080
>>5271363
To be fair these arent final images so that parts count could be subject to change like a couple of the 2015 Toa, but given Akida's construction I feel there is a good chance that this is at least ballpark what its going to be parts-count wise in final set.
>>
>>5279088
Keep in mind that at least 24 of those will be stud shooter ammo, but that's still 100 pieces
>>
I don't get the appeal of the cheat piece print. How did that shit make it to shelves is a mystery to me
>>
>>5279115
Without it they would lack a lot of detail, though I feel the chest prints they gave us on the winter wave were far too abstract and meaningless. Summer chest prints were mostly okay, 2016 sorta fixes the issue by having super-detailed chest molds with some printed detail that are much more reasonable designs with a nuva symbol at the center.

Bit too little gold on standalone Kopaka, but with Melum shouldn't be too bad.

And I somehow feel that his arms are too short, while legs are too long. Little more dark blue wouldn't hurt either.

But that chest printing is based. Simple and elegant.
>>
>>5279127
Glad to see they fixed the issue on the catalog version where Onua and Kopaka had their Nuva symbols swapped, was worried they were going to keep overlooking that, but happy Kopaka has his proper symbol now.

I quite like them all, but it kind of annoys me how they gave Gali asymmetry instead of Pohatu. That was kind of his thing for 2015, and it doesn't really fit on a character who should be streamlined for underwater movement.

>>
>>5280346
Yes, 2004 would've been a good point to end the story.

2005 brought nothing to the table. Every single conflict was solved the moment the year started. We knew they would rescue the Matoran. We knew they wouldn't stay as Hordika. We knew Vakama wouldn't be a cunt forever.

Only real part that affected the story was when they released Makuta, and there's 9 million other things that could've been done.

And Time Trap. That is decent.

>>
>>5281472

That makes me think, what sort of masks are the summer sets going to include?

Ekimu is most likely going to wear his classic Mask of Control, but if they want him to combine with the Creatures like Umarak can he has to include a new mask with his set.

I don't know if the Beasts are wearing masks or not. But since gold+(transparent color) versions of the 2016 Toa masks already exist I can't see them repeating the same trick from the Skull sets. Maybe special colored versions of their head pieces?

As for Umarak the Destroyer, I think he's going to wear a recolored version of his mask to match his new color scheme (unless he keeps his old one) and another Mask of Control (see >>5281486) as his alternate mask.
>>
>>5281499
Since it didn't show up in the animations and wasn't alluded to whatsoever in the book, I'm going to say it's probably still not canon despite what this schmuck says.
>>
>>5282006
The animations likely didnt include it because too lazy to draw a different look for a 20 second long scene, and the book literally just paraphrased the events of the animation.
>>
>>5282006
>>5282021

I'm on a terribly slow connection so I can't view the video. Which combiner is it?
>>
>>5282022
It's the one made from Mask Maker/Skull Grinder and Skull Scorpio.
>>
>>5282021
Yeah, but because they were too lazy to include it, the form never made it into ANY official storytelling and is therefore non-canon.

Taking brief word of mouth bullshit like this and chiseling it in stone is what made the lore in generation 1 go to shit. Just because ONE person said that's what Grinder looks like wearing the Mask of Creation doesn't make it fact.

Especially when the person who said it can barely speak English. Besides, these designer videos have always felt like questionable sources in the first place. The guys never sound like they actually understand what the hell they're talking about.

How, custom torso builds, more bionicle parts, less plain shells, whats wrong with it?
>>
>>5282149
they all look pretty samey. i liked the fact that each toa in 2015 had their own style. now they all share the same body type.
>>
>>5282153
It's just the same torso armor, the actual torso construction is unique for all of them and they all have fairly distinct looks in my opinion. Onua is wide and bulky but also not a midget. Kopaka is lean but has very developed shoulders on his upper arms, basically they all have unique shoulder construction and body construction, the only thing samey between them is the actual torso piece itself.

But oh well you seem convinced not to get them so whatever.
>>
>>5282153
Literally all the 2015 torsos looked the same though. And they were built the same for the most part.
>>
>>5282109
By that logic then Skull Grinder's name isn't canon since it only showed up in a Lego magazine.

Fuck I'm laughing
>>
>>5282499
To be fair there is some debate about that now too. I personally believe anything said about the story by official sources outside of the animations has merit over the animations, which have to make a lot of concessions based on the short run time causing awkward pacing that forces bare-bones storytelling.

The Lego magazine mentions Skull Grinder as Kulta and Skull Slicer as an ancient arena champion who has been taken over by skull spiders and gone insane, neither of these things show up outside of this magazine, but it is very likely they were just in the story bible and didn't make it into the animations which didn't want to / didn't have time to introduce a backstory for skull slicer and didn't want to confuse kids by calling skull grinder something else. Kulta as a name is seen on concept art as well which lends some credence to it being a canon thing.

As for this combiner, it does make sense from a story perspective, we know that wearing powerful masks can effect physical stature (like when Makuta donned the MoUP, and Kulta was empowered with immense strength upon wearing the MoCr, so the idea that the large combiner model that looks like a large Skull Grinder wearing the Mask of Creation and this being the identity of the combo model was theorized since the beginning due to how obvious it is. The set designer confirming that to be the case makes me believe it has a lot of credence and isn't an important enough story detail to be something that has any reason not to be canon.
>>
>>5282109
Are you saying that an author's comments on their own story aren't canon?
That just doesn't make sense.

These videos have been put up on the Lego website and are done by people on the design team, how much more official can you get?
>>
>>5282526
Come to think of it, the combiner model's appearance actually seems like it took inspiration from that original Kulta Kal concept, The leg design is quite similar as are the proportions in general, and the Skull Scorpio legs on the current one could have been meant to be a compromised version of those battle bat wings in the concept.

Huh, thought Onua's shoulders were going to be connected with technic angle pieces or whatever (like the kind that skull scorpio's legs attach to), thankfully they are connected to a limb piece that is connected to a hordika neck in the torso, so they will actually be able to be brought down so that they arent stuck in the awkward 'V' shape which will look better and give him more bulk.

As cool as I like the custom construction, I fear that Pohatu's arms look a bit too shitty and bear from the back (though good from the front) and am not sure what this is going to do in terms of limiting articulation.
