Well, that's the fault of the gifters. Generally these look pretty good, with the odd one that seems to have awful QC no matter what (like the BTAS Harley Quinn and 1966 Catwoman figures), but this is easy to avoid if you pay attention when picking them up.

That's what I usually do, but I didn't have that luxury with Andre as he was the only one in the store. It appears that his entire body is black vinyl and they just painted the flesh portions. However, some parts aren't painted as well as the rest and there are grayish black bits showing through. I'm keeping my receipt in case a better one pops up since the store has a 30-day return policy.

For Marvel, off the top of my head the rarest one is Loki wearing a gold helmet. It was limited to 480 pieces at SDCC 2012.
For DC, there are too many expensive ones to count. You could drop several thousand dollars and not have everything rare
If you are looking for just regular figures, none of them are too rare. I believe the figures from the first avengers movie are retired and a little hard to find, same with the iron man 2 pops. Hawkman is another one to look out for. It is retired and has an error on the box. My brother found several of them at a six flags recently and made a few hundred dollar profit off them

Primarily, anything DC that isn't Batman-related is impossibly expensive. They've got Martian Manhunter, Shazam!, Green Arrow, Aquaman, Hawkman, Bizarro, and some Flash variants that are all pricey as hell.

Some of the Batman figures from the main DC line were retired too - Batgirl, Penguin, Riddler, and Two-Face. I didn't care for the Penguin or Riddler figures, but hold out hope that they'll do 1966 versions to go with the rest of the Adam West series. Those two are my favorite renditions of both characters.

PopCultcha, man. It's how I got my Reverse Flash and Blue Lantern Flash, both of which look excellent. It's slightly more since they're shipped from Australia, but you also bypass all of the BS tracking down and/or paying hiked prices for exclusives.

I have. Made one for the first girl I have ever loved in her likeness, as she loves these things, and gave it to her for Christmas last year. Spent countless hours moulding her hair, painting and sealing it. Even designed, printed (three times to get it perfect) and cut out a Pop style box for it at great cost.
She said it was, "the best present she's ever had" and preceded to walk out my life. Last I heard she's shacked up with some guy so yeah... Still stings...

Just got my first Funko Pops in the mail today. I've never had any interest in them but I'm really in to the Peanuts right now and was looking for any kind of figures of the characters and to my surprise I found the Funkos as the first result and thought whatever, I'll give them a try as Funkos seem pretty popular (over in the US at least).
Any way, they have arrived.. and things are not good.
1. Utter shit paint jobs. Black paint blotches and weird stains all over them. How these passed quality control I'll never know. Obviously Funko don't give a shit.
2. Woodstock's feet are totally deformed meaning he can't stand up. Useless right out the package.
3. After staring at them long enough, they don't seem to resemble the characters very well at all. In fact, after looking at their huge round black eyes for hours, they've gone from being somewhat cute at a glance to looking downright creepy. Reminds me of aliens.
4. These things are marketed as affordable collectibles, in the US perhaps, but here in the UK the going rate is about £10 each ($16) and are definitely not worth the money at all.
So as you can see I'm very disappointed and can no longer see why anyone would want to collect these as a hobby.
Was I just unlucky and got a bad batch of all six figures or is this just how it is all the time?

I've been extremely lucky with the paint on the ones I've found-- mine are all top-notch-- but I have found a few that are really crappy that I left in the store. I definitely wouldn't buy these online, which sucks because you can find some pretty good deals on them on eBay once in a while..

That reminds me, are there bootlegs of Funko pops in circulation? I collect Nendos and Figuarts and I steer clear of eBay when buying those as ebay listings are 90% bootlegs. I'm seeing some really cheap Funkos, way below retail on there which has me suspicious especially since some are located in China which is always a red flag.

general rule of thumb is that if its from asia, dont order it on ebay. They are most likely scraps(or rejects) that were thrown in dumpsters at the factories. It happens with vinylmations too
