I just remembered a theory someone had about what if the Toa's mask powers fused with the skull spiders in later years a la the Hordika. That made me realize something.

This could mean a return to the original mask powers of 2001, with Kopaka getting X-Ray vision, Pohatu going fast, etc. It could also serve as a way of reintroducing mask packs, since the Toa's masks would now be different powers, as opposed to simply elemental conduits like they are now.

None of the above, the set is fine, mine is in perfect condition despite being played with a lot, and originally being in the possession of my little sister. Its likely you were a bit too rough with it.
That being said, I have 3 masks with bent spots that dont obviously change the shape or were fixed back to shape, but leave a noticable lighter seam (I will probably look into purchasing new ones), one was a green miru, one was a blue miru, and one was a green hau, all bent on their lower left corner. Wonder what the common cause is.

I love the skull spiders. It irks me whenever I watch a review, and when the reviewer gets to the one included in the set, they say practically nothing. Even in the majority of the BZP reviews, nobody pointed out the mix of Krana and Infected Kanohi they harken from. They just bitch about the color of the spider clashing with the figure when it's put on or how the legs get in the way.
Like, the colors clash for a goddamn reason. Look at the color choice of the Krana. They're supposed to look foreign on the victim they subdue.
I just hope we get red ones with the summer villains. The 1:1 ratio between spiders and good guys doesn't seem "horde" enough to me.

Hey, if you ignore protectors in combat scenarios, you can get a solid 2:1 ratio, I feel like, because of how they were handled, skull spiders are the best execution of the 'swarm' type villain idea that Bionicle has done for several years, and combining them with the Krana / Infected Kanohi / Kraata concept was just great. The fact that different colors have their own unique powers is a nice touch and having to look them up on the main site to know about such powers reminds me a lot of old Bionicle for some reason.

The protectors dont seem to have names at the moment, but we know so little about them that there might be a reason for this. Other than that, there arent really any characters that NEED to have names, the skull _____ is perfectly normal for bionicle, with creatures post 2001 having names along the lines of "Blade Burrower", "Bog Snake", or "Dermis Turtle". Its possible that Ekimu is referred too as 'Mask Maker' in his set because they want kids to know what his purpose is, and a set titled "Ekimu Maker of Masks versus Skull Grinder" is a bit of a mouthful.
