>>

Why? It a shit topic even by /tg/ standards.
>>
>>47673585
From what we've seen, with the Gem Homeworld's capability (and experience using) Exterminatus level weapons, I'd say they'd fit right into WH40K's powerlevels. Honestly, considering how grimderp they're supposed to be, creating their people by killing planets I'd say they fit right in thematically as well.

But they're too centralized to be Necrons. If you replaced the Tau with them then there'd likely be little to no change within the setting.
>>
>>47674142
>Steven universe teaches us that even if we come to understand someone, we can still hate them.
Sounds like it will fit right in with 40K!
>>
>>47673585
So basically you're saying they remove necrons? Since I don't think they're gonna INTRODUCE an all female faction after what happened to the sisters

Aren't /co/ and /tg/ very closely net together? Theres always room for exchange and discussion and it would not be the first first 40k powerlevel vs whatever thread.

Also I think some anon made a Steven Universe 5e D&D template. So as a setting there is defenitly room for it on /tg/. If discussed correctly.

Let's look at the facts.
Irkens
-do not understand their technology fully
-are green
-want to go to war with everything
-like explosions
-use other races to produce their technology
-naturally follow those of their race who are biggest
-are able to take technological enhancements that would kill other races
-regularly take extreme maiming like eyes and brains being removed without dying

Irkens are in 40k. They're right over there, running a waaaaugh.

I think this thread is great, but I've got crappy taste in a lot of things.
>Faction Lore
The Gems should be some long lost splinter sect of the old Eldar Empire that's been lost to the warp until now. Rather than possess physical bodies, the Gems use soulstones but with hard-light bodies projecting outwards.
>Unit Varieties
Diamonds are the big leaders that are faster, smarter, tougher than all the other gems.
Quartzes are the big strong followers but act as leaders if necessary
Human sized Utility Gems have special powers and abilities but suffer from poor morale
Small Combat Gems act as fodder and can more readily fuse into bigger combat gems
Small Utility Gems act in a support capacity, reviving fallen gems and repairing vehicles.
>Fusions
If one is butchering the SU lore then might as well make that fusion is perfectly acceptable on the battlefield. The only downside is that if morale breaks down enough then so do the fusions. Also certain fusions are highly stable but highly dangerous, posing a risk for everyone in proximity.
>>
>>47686586
>Human sized Utility Gems have special powers and abilities but suffer from poor morale
Change that to EXTREMELY poor morale. A Peridot would get scared of lightning of all things.

Peridot is smol utility gem
Peridots need leaders like a diamond or a quartz ordering them to go fix a destroyed gun emplacement otherwise they'd just stay behind cover and cower. They are like tech-priest but with a better sense of self-preservation.
Human sized utility gems are like Pearls or Lapis Lazuli, they can operate for a while on their own but they need to be around someone confident. Also they need experience before they can become near useful in a fight
>>
>>47686742
Well yes but I'm just saying.
Anyway, I imagine a gem's thing on table top would essentially be "all of a sudden, titan unit" due to fusion. Albeit who said that they were just one faction? Treat it like marks of chaos, but instead it's Diamonds. Yellow's thing would be overwhelming the enemy with good weapons and vehicle buggery, blue's would be psyker buggery, and Rose would be "all of a sudden giant women". As for white, who knows? We don't know anything about white diamond.
>>
>>47686586
>The Gems should be some long lost splinter sect of the old Eldar Empire that's been lost to the warp until now. Rather than possess physical bodies, the Gems use soulstones but with hard-light bodies projecting outwards.
But that would mean Eldar are being grown out of the ground from fucking minerals, which would make zero sense. Chances are more likely they are a experiment of the old ones to create better Eldar.

Because (x) in 40k is rarely anything but retarded. It either has to be ridiculous just to not be wiped put immediately, which means it's always "OP until chaos fucks it because lol warp" or contrived bills hit vs. contrived bullshit.

Power creep is endemic. The only times it's been good is Spartan vs. SM where SM bullshit was objectively better due to ridiculous enhancements. And Star Wars vs 40k where star wars ships are crazy faster, do more damage, are more maneuverable, better shields etc. Plus equal if not greater numbers and the force blocks warp shit.

Special mention for the Culture fanfic that was more an exploration of how the warp works on reality.

Gems in 40k? Protagonist comes in, does bullshit melding. "Seeds orc/tyranid planets with gems and becomes an empire with each gem having snowflake powers that have them be overwhelmed at first until merging into unstoppable narrative metaphor - until Chaos infects them and makes them into another dangerous foe that fights itself whenever it becomes a galactic threat so that the overall status quo is maintained."

Because that's 40k.

The idea of a race of lava swimming, mass produced, shapeshifting, regenerating supersoldiers is pretty 40K when you think about it.

Add in powers to see the future, pyrokinesis, teleportation, the ability to create duplicates of yourself, draining entire oceans and no dependence on food or sleep?

>It's pretty easy to make powerful characters in fantasy or soft sci-fi.
>>
>>47683605

>>47683219
They're the AdMech working for the Emperor because he's really tall. They're all so augmented they're basically servitors anyway.
>>
>>47691497
I'd like to think that something good could come from it.

I like the Orcs deciding to try fusion.

Maybe there's a Gem that is orky and killy enough that a warboss becomes enamored of it much like with Yarrick, and makes cunning plans to try and force it to fuse with him.

Or the reverse. A rogue gem mad with power goes around trying to fuse orks into itself, becoming more Orky with each one.

Or perhaps that's how they avoid Chaos. You have 20 gems scattered through the Galaxy landing on the world's of different factions. Maybe focusing on minor races, they war with each other in the background merging with the successive leaders of minor xenos groups to maintain a continuous existence.

So a gem would be found by the Elder on a maiden world, and merge with successive eldar trapped on a path of war. It's taboo for them to ever merge with a farseer to provide a measure of control.

A gem merges with a PDF member who is also minor nobility, and he uses their power to combat a persistent ork infestation. The local authority turns a blind eye, but he has to keep the ecclesiarchy on his side to prevent being branded a heretic.

>>
"Who would win" falls apart when they don't have defined limits.

The warp's whole thing is "fuck logic and also physics"

So however we play this out, 40k is WAY too expansive a setting for one answer to satisfy everyone.

"Oh, so the Covenant could defeat the Imperial Guard? Well what if the AdMech decided to stretch their rules and mass produce Volkite weapons, and the assembly instructions for Baneblades were shared with more forge worlds, and they used Tau pulse rifle tech, and the Elder decided to ally with them, and the psykers started making daemon weapons for the commissars because they're that desperate..."

A Delder corsair finds a gem, and is forced to fight against challengers for the right to fuse. This gem forces it's will on each new leader, never taking humanoid form but instead appearing as a living battle armor. It secretly helps or hinders the current leader to ensure strong but simple minded challengers always win. It has another gem captive that it keeps stunted so that it can't achieve sapience, and is collecting and experimenting on different xenos looking to merge it before either has self awareness so that it can have an ultimate weapon to fight in its stead.

A gem was found in the Farsight Enclave and another by the Tau home world. They often work together and wish to reconcile the two factions, but are both ultimately loyal to their separate commands. Both are well integrated, but their preference for fusing with each other instead of Tau makes them still outsiders when it comes down to it and they're often put in the most dangerous situations in combat or kept separate when out of combat. They are slowly becoming disillusioned with the Tau because of this and end up seeking each other out even more, but still have hope for the ideals of the Greater Good.

There's a Rak'gul gem. Not insane, but of a truly alien mindset it is unpredictable and erratic when interacting with other gems or races. It doesn't fuse with Rak'Gul but instead has fused itself with all manner of technology resulting in strange deformities and weird energies flowing through it. One of the pieces is an old cogito tor from the dark age of technology in the shape of a human head, and the gem has formed a second crystal head to sit beside it. Cancerous growths link the two, and an eerie chattering of not quite speech issues back and forth between them when it interacts with other gems. The purpose of this is unknown as communication occurs via a holoscreen that prints well mannered statements that are disturbing in their normalcy.

Of course any hybrids parent would have been an outcast of some kind so the hybrid would stay with their new race
>>
>>47691688
Fuck that gay shit. That's boring. It's 40k we don't need to stock to gay gem snowflake canon.

Help me come up with ways isolated gems would integrate or interact with 40k factions instead. It's more fun than saying "no" at the very least.

You criticize SU cannon then turn around and make your own snowflake cannon. Yeah doesn't seem like complete faggotry at all.

Oh no. I'm taking what I like from it and ignoring what I don't. How dare I do this when mixing an imaginary thing with another imaginary thing.

Yeah. I'm sitting all over the canon because I think that restriction is boring and gay.

You're why people say the SU fandom is fucking cancer.
>>
>>47692044
Well if that's your logic, then we might as well not even use Steven Universe and just make our own OC.

Please do, because Steven Universe is fucking gay.

Their weapons can be destroyed. They just another one tho. Otherwise the powers you described each, for the most part, seem to be unique to each type of gem.

>>47692044

Respecting canon for things like comparisons of two different settings is cancer? Alright, next time we compare SW and 40k I'll throw out all the Mary Sue fanfic characters and whatever shitty universe destroying weapons they must inevitability be related to.
>>
>>47692991
Hey. It's not my fault Gem characters are already Mary sue.

Or, rather, weak bait. Learn what words mean please.

Taking out one restriction to make it so that it's actually interesting instead of you herring yourself off about your tumblr TV show is something I'm okay with.

But yeah. You do you. I'll do me. Not like either of us can stop the other.

> Change one thing so that Gems can fit into 40k

Quite frankly taking the only interesting mechanic in my opinion. Everything else is pretty shit.

> OMFG IT'S RUINED NOTHING LIKE GEMS ANYMORE I HAVE TO BE MY LITTLE FATTY FATKINS WHOSE SO SUPER WITH HIS HALF HUMAN HALF GEM HERITAGE

Enjoy having your gems immediately fall to Chaos because no souls then.
>>
>>47691235
I still think organics are somehow necessary to gem production; I think in the episode where they finally revealed how gems are made, they reference that the process sucks the life out of the planet rather than simply hollowing it out, which is why they started growing gems on Earth and not Mars or the Moon or some other already-lifeless planet.

Basically, Gems and Nids are still competing for planets.
>>
>>47692044
You can't just throw out the established canon when you're trying to do a comparison. By that logic I can throw out anything I don't like, such as everything that gives SU any chance of surviving, and then saying "virus bombs fall, everyone dies".
This isn't fucking calvinball. There has to be a set standard and canon that is adhered to.
>>47692959
Too fucking bad. Nobody wants you, nobody likes you. And moreover, if containment boards are disregarded then /pol/, /mlp/, /b/, etc. will shit up the entire site.
>>
>>47693237
Crons don't have souls and they don't fall to chaos. Besides, having a soul in 40k is just having a connection to the warp. To do that you need emotions, gems have emotions.
>>
>>47693198
>Hey. It's not my fault Gem characters are already Mary sue.
Ah yes, because 40k has no mary sues whatsoever. NECRONS, GREY KNIGHTS, ULTRASMURFS
>>
>>47673585
How would Gems react to the Warp? That's something everyone in 40k has to deal with.

Or, from another perspective, what if they already use the Warp? They're already beings with powers that seem magical to the unfamiliar, who gain seemingly unlimited energy from their gemstones, who can create bodies and other physical objects from nothing but their own "magical" energy. Their powers are even based on their thoughts and emotions, at least in some cases. Plus, there was that line from Garnet about how she summons her Gem weapon by tapping into the forces of the universe.

The 40k version of Gemkind could very well be a sort of sentient Warpstone. Each of them has a specific, fixed identity as part of their design, using that to draw on the substance of the Warp and manifest a stable pseudo-daemonic body to interact with realspace, similar to how the Eldar can forge its energies into wraithbone. And in order to make such a stable body, the Gems must be psychologically rigid and inflexible by design; they have free will and can develop their own personalities, but deep down a Pearl will always be a Pearl and a Ruby will always be a Ruby; they have to be, in order to exist in a world of Chaos where thoughts and emotions are the building blocks of reality.
>>
>>47693292
>>47693309
First of all. It's individual grown gems who just don't have personalities. Because they're like Men of Iron. Ain't got no souls. As opposed to Necrons who are anti-warp by their very nature.

Getting tossed into 40k just like the Primarchs were. Washing up in random places. Fusing with shit.

We'll say a Chaos God did it.

>>47693327
> That's the joke.

It's much more interesting to have gem protagonists involved as opposed to trying to fit the whole gem universe in.

>sentient Warpstone
That's not how Warpstone works. It's crystallized directly from chaotic energies, while the Gems are physical gemstones with magical projected bodies. To be more accurate, they could be described as a species of self-aware crystalline computers who evolved (or were designed) to naturally use the power of the Warp.
>>
>>47691017
No, the Nids will just kill them anyway, because I doubt the Gems would just let the Nids run around, and once the Gems start attacking the Nids, it's game over for the Gems.
>>
>>47694158
Well yes, but gems can think for 5 seconds and not attack them. It would simply be more beneficial to make a empire behind nids while they do all the conquering work for them.
>>
>>47694176
Do you really think a race of warlike conquerors would stop and think "Hey, lets not attack these creatures" when a massive horde of Nids suddenly drop on a planet in search of biomass?
>>
>>47694746
Yellow diamond maybe.
We don't know shit about the other diamonds.
>>
>>47694779
Any reasonable race that sees a massive tidal wave of gnashing claws, teeth and fleshy cannons, heading in their direction would throw up a defense.
>>
>>47694857
Yes but don't saphires have future vision? I'm sure that blue diamond can convince yellow to give it a shot. Tyranids clean off the minerals of any organic life while gems get the minerals. Even if they do cock it up they have paradox-less time travel Necron style.

>Ignoring all the rules of gems needing biomass and shit.
When did they need biomass?
>>
>>47695048
Don't they kill planets, concentrating the life force into gems or whatever?
>>
>>47695062
Well yes but we don't know if it leaves the biomass behind to decompose on its own or reduces it to dust, which is all nids care about.
>>
>>47695113

Based on their planets for Earth, there wont be biomass left over, because a solid 50% of the planet is just fucking GONE. The Earth becomes a hollow shell of continents joined together in a superstructure, linked on a physical axis to the hive city/power plant that is what remains of the planets core. All mass nonessential to the use of Earth as a staging ground for further expansion of the empire has been converted into gems, tools, or ships.

On the holomodels of the Earth plans, you can literally see through the planet if you find the right angle that lines up gaps in the superstructure.

Any biomass that remains at that point is totally incidental.

Its also worth pointing out that this was their planets for a full planetary conversion 5000 years ago. The show has made a big deal about Homeworld tech having advanced astronomically since then, their tech level is far from stagnant. Rebellion era siege weapons cannot even scratch a modern Homeworld ship.
So its a safe bet to assume that a 'modern' planetary conversion is even more extreme than what they had planned for Earth before.

> do not understand their technology fully
Actually they do, its the glitches/sabotages of others species tech that makes it appear they don't.

> are green
Yes. Yes they are.

> want to go to war with everything
No they want to enslave everything.

> like explosions
In the same way as humans.

> use other races to produce their technology.
They just outsource, excluding the Massive and Megadoomer.

> naturally follow those of their race who are biggest
They are actually puppets, an AI runs the show.

> are able to take technological enhancements that would kill other races
Actually the enhancements have been shown to be used and working on humans.

> regularly take extreme maiming like eyes and brains being removed without dying
That's because of the PAK. Also Eye damage is done to several different species and they survive.

>Irkens are in 40k. They're right over there, running a waaaaugh.
I don't know much about Orkz but aren't the majority idiots, ran by idiots and are plants?
Because Tallest Red, Tak, The control brain and the majority of the population of Irkens aren't any of those things.

Except all a gem needs to do to create (or more precisely, become) a hybrid capable of fusing with a native species is to hijack their reproductive systems. So that should be exceptionally easy with orcs, since their gametes are falling off them all the time. Gem just has to collect the orc-spore, let it grow inside her, and when it's ready to emerge imbed its gem into it. There you go, orc-gem hybrid.
>>
>>47695726
They aren't idiots. They are just...imaginatively gifted

Also fungus, not plants
>>
>>47695730
Yes they can do that, but why would they want to? Rose did it because she saw beauty in mankind and fell in love with Greg.
>>
>>47695730
Ork spores are capable of combat though, most likely they would destroy her insides if she attempted to grow them inside her.
>>
>>47695730
An Ork-Gem hybrid would live for all of one day before the other Orks descend upon it and slaughter it. Orks have an inherent sense of un-Orky things, like Chaos corrupted Orks, or Genestealer Ork breeds, and have a uncontrollable desire to kill said things.
>>
>>47696344
What if there was a gem designed around being Orky?
>>
>>47696388
It's still unnatural to Orks, theres an inherent link between all Orks that warns them of unnatural things, even slight deviations from the norm of Orkyness causes them to be warry or outright shun said deviations, such as Weirdboys, or even just separate occupations, like Meks and Doks. Chaos and Genestealer Ork hybrids are extremely rare because as soon as they pop up the other Orks will butcher them.
