Why do people consider this a big market team?

Before 2013, I've never heard of them. How are they not the same tier as the Thunder or Bucks?

Aren't there even more Clipper fans in LA than Warrior fans?
>>
Golden State = San Fran/Oakland/San Jose
>>
>>69525182
I thought Golden State = California
>>
>>69525199
I'm talking about where they actually play. They aren't some kind of traveling or LA-centric team.
>>
>>69525199
California is nicknamed The Golden State, but in this case, it just means the Bay Area
>>
>>69525182
How is that a large market though?

New York, LA, Chicago, and Miami are the large markets
>>
>>69525231
Then why are they called "Golden State" instead of "Bay Area"?
>>
>>69525362

How large is the market for the urban area that is currently the powerhorse of the American economy?

Pretty big market.
>>
>>69525488
But they aren't a large market for sports.

How are they even larger than DC, Houston, or Dallas? The Bay Area is Seattle tier.

At most, they aren't that much higher than a market like Portland or San Diego
>>
>>69525162
Clippers fans don't outnumber anyone.

Most of the Clips fans you see in LA or rather Cali today and even many Warriors fans are just disenfranchised Lakers bandwagoners who left when things got rough. But even now the Lakers do very well for themselves.

The Clippers fans in existence before 2009-2011 were an extreme minority even in their own city. LA has always been the Lakers' stronghold with the Clips always far behind

If anything most of the state out to Las Vegas is really Laker country, with GSW fans concentrated around the Bay, Kings diehards in Sacramento, and small bands of Blazers fans in the upper reaches

Once the Lakers git gud again you'll probably see tons of fans revert. Especially with the Clippers' window to win closing

>>69525362
Do you know how large San Fran is?

Miami's market also isn't as big as you think it is

New York, LA and Chicago are the only true "large" markets

>>69525459
Just a naming choice. They used to be the San Francisco Warriors
>>
>>69525459
To attract bandwagoners from elsewhere. The same reason why the Pats are called "New England" or the Angels are called "Los Angeles" even though it's in Anaheim.
>>
>>69525631
Miami metro area has 6 million people
San Francisco metro has 4.5 million people

Not to mention Miami has a much larger economic and media presence than San Francisco.

Most people not from the US don't place San Francisco that highly
>>
>>69525521
Why are you playing ignorant to the existence of bandwagonners?
>>
>>69525631
Then why does the media make it seem like Durant going from OKC to SF is a victory for "large markets" when SF isn't really that large of a market

OKC has 600,000 people
SF has 800,000 people

NYC has 8 million people
LA has 4 million people
Chicago has 3 million people

>>69525699
so you're just pulling shit out of your now?
>>
>>69525752
Ok but I never hear anyone refer to Dallas or Philly as large markets
>>
>>69525752
rekt
>>
>>69525825
that's because you're stupid
>>
>>69525858
So we are in agreement that SF isn't a large market, correct?

SF is closer in size to a place like Cleveland than it is to a place like New York
>>
>>69525747
Oklahoma City metro has 1.5 million
Bay Area has several times that
>>
>>69525923
SF isn't the entirety of GS dumbass. The Warriors are with the entirety of the Bay Area. They're a lot bigger than Oklahoma.
>>
>>69525752
How come the Bay Area has multiple teams but Dallas or Philly doesn't?
>>
>>69525521
Tell that to the San Jose Sharks, the Oakland A's, the Giants, the Raiders, the 49ers, and the Warriors.

Portland, Seattle, and San Diego can't even keep their teams or attract them in the first place.

>>69525747
>>69525923

See >>69525182 & >>69525752 & >>69525952 & >>69525927

You're not accounting for the total area.
>>
>>69526006
Isn't Oakland about to lose the Warriors, A's and Raiders?
>>
>>69525967
Philly used to have 2 basketball teams - the Warriors and the 76ers, and 2 baseball teams - the Athletics and the Phillies.
>>
>>69525967
it's all about proximity
>SJ/SD/Oakland are all close together so it's one market
>Dallas and Fort Worth are close together so it's one market
>Philly and Pittsburgh are on separate sides of the state so they are two markets
>>
>>69526033
No, why would the Warriors migrate? Fans always fill the stadium and it'll even be bigger with the addition of KD. The Warriors will be in the spotlight of the NBA for years, no way would they change anything now.
>>
>>69526088
The Warriors are moving from Oakland to San Francisco

>>69526059
SD to Oakland is 500 miles
Philly to Pittsburgh is 350 miles
>>
>>69526128
i meant San Fran
>>
>>69526033
Raiders, yes, if the Chargers don't move to LA. But the Warriors are only moving to San Francisco and the A's are likely to stay in the Bay Area, too.

I kind of miss when they were bad and lovable when they did things well. Plus Jason Richardson was fun to watch dunk.

t. Season ticket holder for 2003-2005
>>
>>69525162
I only remember them cause David Lee got traded from muh Knicks.
>>
the SF/Oakland/San Jose area is very, very big.

it is so big it has more people than the island of Ireland.
>>
>>69526424
I dunno, it only has 8 million people. doesn't seem all that large
>>
>>69526437
>only has 8 million people

that's more than Washington state and it's the fifth largest CSA in America
>>
>>69526437
LA had 4 million by comparison
>>
>>69525162
they don't play in L.A. you absolute dumbass. and you're a casual if you've never heard of them before 2013.
>>
Because Commiefornians are bandwagoning pieces of trash, and will dump money into whoever is the best in the state.
>>
>>69529861
t. Flyover
>>
>>69525162
I'm from LA. I always thought they were Nuggets tier
>>
>>69531996
>people from LA
>thinking

haha nice one
>>
>>69533856
Most people in LA are more highly educated than you.
>>
because it's literally across the bridge from the richest part of the US
>>
>>69533886
>richest part of the US

I didn't know that the Warriors play near Greenwich, Connecticut

The Bucks only exist to serve the Chicago crowd who drive north to watch the Bulls.

Hour and a half drive from my house lmao
>>
No one should hate the Warriors.

They went from scraps and nothing to the biggest sensation in sports.

you don't have to be a huge city to be a huge market

packers or st. louis cardinals for example, if people find you exciting and you win a lot you'll get a national following.
>>
>>69534029
But the Warriors don't have a lot of sustained success like the Cardinals or Packers

They're like the Seahawks and no one refers to the Seahawks as a large market team
>>
>>69526128
It's still in the Bay Area. Warriors are GOLDEN STATE not San Fran not Oakland. GOLDEN STATE MEANING THE ENTIRETY OF THE BAY AREA.
>>
>>69533923
>from scraps

You mean residing in one of the wealthiest areas in the nation?
