there are several ways to pick a team to root for
1. hometown heroes - pick the team closest to your proximity, you're most likely to have a large fandom for the team already established in your town, their games will be played in your local bars/pubs/restaurants, and the games will be in close distance to actually go and physically see.
2. start watching games - after a few games with one team you should be able to determine whether or not you'll like them and want to keep following them!
3. choose based on aesthetic - a lot of people i know chose their favorite sports team based on uniform and color theme (are you a black and yellow kind of guy? pittsburgh's penguins might be up your alley, into sick logos? san jose sharks, etc)
4. choose randomly or take a quiz/test to determine who you should root for, such as this image
