California has a $2.5 trillion GDP, now the sixth largest economy in the world, yet it only has 18 professional sports teams. Why doesn't it have more? It can clearly absorb a number of teams in each sport from worthless flyover states and let them focus on growing wheat and not be distracted by pro sports

It's crazy that the state currently only has two MLS teams. We're getting LAFC soon, and it looks like Sacramento might get a team as well. San Diego should have one, though there aren't any real talks at the moment. I also think that the Bay Area is big enough for two teams, presumably one in San Francisco itself.

There's going to be an NASL team, San Franciso Deltas. Fucking dumb, because NASL is literal garbage-tier. The SJ Earthquakes were my defacto team (East Bay resident), but I'd love to have a team in the City to root for instead. Except now I'd have to root for a going-nowhere NASL team... :(

Yeah, you could. By the time an MLS team would be in there (maybe 2020?), the minimum MLS wage will be ~65-100k. Besides, they'd probably get set up with an apartment, like lots of other teams do in Europe when they're in cramped cities, especially common to provide food and housing for young players.
