MLS is new. This is a MLS thread.

Soccer has been around for a long time. But I'm sure you have the Premiere League a fair shake and made an informed decision from that, rather than waiting for an actual league you could go watch live in person.

Yes, I'm sure that's what you did. Very forward-thinking of you. Good job.

generally, soccer is not a big deal over here. sure in middle and high school as there are decent amounts of youth leagues playing during the summer time, but there are no crazy national leagues nor is there very much public support for it say from the mexican communities. i guess it comes down to it being a game of defenses mainly as a lot of games can go tie or even scoreless. that and the overacting of penalties, and refing in general tends to roll the eyes of the average american.
>>
TIL Wondo has never played in a WCQ for the US
Why did he start against Argentina?
>>
>>69038506
>I have a small question, how the Americans see European football?
For the most part, we don't. It registers like a Canadian curling league or Bangladeshi cricket league. We don't care.

Some hipsters have found Premiere League online, I think, and became fans of a sport they can never see live, because it's "alternative" ..... which is why you see the pissy Americans ITT equating MLS-fandom with that weird idiosyncrasy. Personally I never gave a fuck about sports overseas, I simply got a MLS team in my city, went to a game, learned the rules, had a great time.
>>
>>69039018
Nah anon.

WC 14 fervor + NBC having EPL broadcast rights.

Funny how if you put it on TV people will watch it.
>>
>>69039137
Yes, but I was referring to BEFORE nbc put that on TV. Remember MLS has been around twenty years, I didn't seek out Euro-soccer on TV, I physically went to games in the US, even though I know "going outside" is usually frowned upon by 4chan posters.
>>

It is also a pity that your league is populated by old star of European football, you have no young talent
>>
>>69038506
It's definitely gotten a lot more popular here since NBC started having all the EPL games and some other networks show games from other leagues. Personally I try to watch all the soccer it can but it can be hard to go from watching PL in the morning to MLS in the afternoon/night the difference in quality is significant and hard to miss

>>69040266
Compared to your Euro league, I suspect it wouldn't look as good. But that's okay, because you probably have zero investments in the cities they play for, anyway.

There's been threads here about where it ranks worldwide (worse than EPL, better than Bundes Liga, I think one said), but soccer is soccer. My home state doesn't even have the best teams in American sports either, but I watch them anyway because sport + beer = fun.
>>

MLS is getting better all the time teams are relying less on pure physical ability and more teams are trying to play more passing and possession soccer it had a ways to go but the ability to attract south and central American talent along with growing American interest I think bodes well. I think there is also the potential to attract a lot of African players who can't quite cut it in top European leagues and would rather play and live here instead of eastern or northern Europe
>>
>>69040817
The college system is one of the big problems facing the development of the league and the national team. MLS teams are just really starting to get their academies going and no young player is going to go to one if they have the opportunity to go to an academy elsewhere. As good as some of the college programs are they just can't compare to a lifetime of focused training.

>>
>>69046124

What are you talking about. I can see EPL very easy in the USA. NBC and NBCSN paid alot of money for the rights too. Way more than MLS.

I can watch games in the morning and game of the week at noon time. The skill gap is still visibly noticeable, maybe MLS should spemd more money on players

>>
>>69046231

>>

Local teams arent free, you fucking idiot. You need to be paying a cable bill.

To get New England games i would need Comcast Sports Network, Redbulls require MSG network and NYCFC requires YES network. These are cable network channels that you have to pay for.

NBCSN would be included in the same package. And by the way I can watch EPL game of the week and Bundesliga game of the week on NBC and Fox with a digital antenna. Those are free.

Anything MLS costs money so dont call me a hipster you cunt

MLS is getting big and the entire USA pro soccer pyramid seems like its growing by the day.

Bruh, if I have $100 million just lying around, I can make anything happen that I fucking want to. I don't know why that would be a MLS franchise, but if it were Garber would cash my fucking check.
>>
>>69063784

yah, good luck with that. You have to buy a place to put a stadium, keep it up to code, buy players, pay their salaries, and submit your bid

>In late February 2009, CBS Sports Network reached a new carriage agreement with DirecTV, which allowed the satellite provider to move the channel from its add on "Sports Pack" to its "Choice Xtra" base package; the move became effective on February 25, 2009, expanding the channel's distribution to 30 million subscribers.[32]

Traditionally soccer was most popular in the Bay Area and around Boston. Tons of Italians and Micks and Portuguese, and in California obviously Mexicans. Seems like in the early days LA and San Jose were two of the more popular teams. This recent surge in the PNW is due to hipsters, and the lack of shit to do in PNW. Plus the teams are fairly successful and create a fun atmosphere at the games. It's more fun when everyone's on board and winning.

Traditionally soccer was popular in New York, St. Louis, and New Orleans, but that tradition ended with the Great Depression and the assimilation of those cities Irish and Italian populations.

It kinda is. It is a four-teams tournament after all. Still, the reward of being in CONCACAF Champions League is much easier than American teams so nobody really complains about that.
