>England creates the word soccer, short for association as in association football
>gets mad when people say soccer
why is this?
>>68854630
>Ball-coise
Ok that's how I'm calling divegrass from now on
>>68854630
England knew the word was so shitty, they abandoned it, just like many other English inventions.
Of course, that leaves Americans with the perfect trolling word.
>>68854630
There are 2 reasons:
1. Back in the 1980s, some Brits mistakenly thought that "soccer" was an American word, and rejected it for that reason. Many Brits still think that we came up with it.
2. The people who came up with the word "soccer" were students at Oxford in the late 19th/early 20th century, upper-class types. Most Brits hate those kind of people, so naturally they hate the word as well.
>>68854630
cause they are retarded
>>68854630
>Bola Sepak
much better than "divegrass" we should change it to that
>>68854630
>Norway: Fotball
>Sweden: Fotboll
>Finland: JALKAPALLO
>>68854874
Finland has a meme language like Hungary
>>68854630
Football was always a working class sport, and the british working class has always called it Football
>>68854902
>go to Hungary last summer
>it's like you went to another planet
But it is nice to have that one special neighbour.
>>68854972
>>68854972
So, Americans are now upper class for using the word Soccer. OK,got it.
>>68854902
>>68854995

>>68855042

Finns are tundra asians, Magyars are steppe asians. They speak Fingolian and Hungolian.
>>68855084
it's all Uncle Benito fault
He started an "italianization" of all foreign words, so football became Calcio (literally "kick")
>>68855084
>>68855099
Calcio means "kick"
who cares lol
>>68855150
>>68855130
Isn't that the name of some ancient murderball game you played in the middle ages?
>>68855177
Yup, that's Calcio Fiorentino. Murderball at its finest.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calcio_Fiorentino
>>68854972
>Football was always a working class sport
In Britain you mean?
Because here it was an upper class sport until mid 30s.
>>68855238
>The modern version of calcio allows tactics such as head-butting, punching, elbowing, and choking
>>68855313
It's all good as long as there is no kick in the head and it's one on one, so that's pretty based.
Just imagine some choking the fuck out of Ronaldo.
>Nogometna instead of Fudbal
>>68854630
>Mell-droad
Now that's some special snowflake tier.
>>68854630
desu Soccer is better but its too late for that. o.g. 'Football' has many variations including:
Soccer
Rugby
Gailic Football
Aussie Rules
Gridiron (American) Football
Handball
>>68855586
>Nogo
>Comes from "noga", meaning foot
>Met
>comes from "nadmetanje", meaning contest
It's a foot contest
>>68855662
my favourite variation is Old School Village Football. Where theres no rules as to tackles or team size, game starts between two villages the teams have to get the ball to the opposing village to win usually 5 or so miles

>>68855130
Based
>>68855586
>futebol instead of pebola
>>68856171
No. More like english to Greek. Except with far less vocabulary in common.
>>68855112
>>68856171
>>68856367
Also, to continue:
The Finno-Ugric languages are believed to have their common origin (that is, the earliest single language from which all subsequent F/U languages, but no non-F/U languages, are descended) located in the Mid-Volga region. The Indo-European languages are instead thought to originate all the way over in... the lower-Volga.
>>68856171
Not really. The languages diverged thousands of years ago, so they only have a couple hundred words in common ( kéz - käsi - hand ). There are far more modern foreign loanwords that they share.
The main similarities are that they both have over a dozen cases, a shitload of suffixes, and strictly no grammatical gender (he and she are the same word).
hupikék törpikék
>>68856652
Don't do that
>>68854630

In early 20th Century, some nationalists did campaign to sport to be known as Ludopédio in Brazil.
