Time traveler here. Here's what'll happen.

The US has nothing to lose and a whole bunch of younger guys who haven't played against tough teams and still believe they can do anything. The US form this tournament has been progressively more aggressive save for a few moments against Ecuador. It's going to be a dirty fucking game and the Argies will be out worked and roughed up by some ref ball and Jermaine Jones wannabees. In the end it's literally going to come down to if Messi performs at the top of his game. If he's having an off night, the US stands a solid chance at bringing this to penalties, or meme magic in the 88th minute and win 1-0.
Argentina didn't look especially strong against Venezuela. There were a lot of defensive mistakes and poor finishing by Venezuela. Argie goal keeper isn't that good either. The US are the under dog here, but not by much, it will be a close match.

i don't think handling the pressure is the issue. we don't have quality players yet, and who knows if it's even ever going to be a possibility.
very few of the guys actually on the pitch for us are "great athletes" by our standards.
players like yedlin, wood, etc are steps in the right direction but the team needs to be filled out with players like this before i would have real expectations against teams like argentina and so on.
