Are there any other tracks where it's seemingly impossible to have two cars side by side through a section? I mean I know Monaco is tight but you COULD fit two cars through any of the turns, even the hairpin. But the castle section seems like you literally have to give way completely if you were trying to pass somebody, I don't think two cars could fit at all through it at the same time.

One additional thing to notice - the "run off" at that tight corner makes it impossible to burnout your way out of it. If you're late on the brakes, you gone, man.

I'm sure Bernie is secretly happy that this otherwise shitty track is causing such a commotion with that corner. He knew to put the race on a date colliding with Le Mans - he was sure that everyone will watch the race, hoping for the crashfest on that particular corner.

Gonna be awesome. The entry to that corner is so crazy as well. Ricciardo already said that its certain someone is going to crash in that corner

This track is honestly the best street circuit I've seen really. The fact that there is such a long fuck you straight means that the teams HAVE to run a low downforce setup, which means they're running close to Monza-tier downforce and grip through this ultra narrow Monaco-tier section with very imminent walls.

Also apparently the last 2 "turns" on the main straight are such that it's not clear if they're going to be fully flat out. Probably in quali yes but in race, who knows. Honestly these are the kind of corners are what F1 needs, ones that are close to flat out and then taken flat out by someone who has the right balls and the right car and setup. Kind of how Eau Rouge used to be 15-20 years ago (not comparing this to Eau Rouge lol, but just similar concept)

So will Manor ever become a GOAT team in the future now that they have a beast engine? Will they ever poach one of the top engineers to complete their race package and actually develop a car that can go fast in and out of the corners or will they forever be relegated to being a meh back marker that's possibly maybe better than Sauber? I feel like I remember hearing that MRT had a really good car designer or someone on the technical side who has a lot of experience so I'm not quite sure what will happen

It used to be the best in the world lime 50 years ago and idiots just kept deluding themselves that it wouldn't need improving and now we are here with crumbling roads and degrading tracks and only a few cities with subways and even those are severely dated. There isnt much national budget dedicated to improving infrastructure, it is left to local governments. Also it is a lot easier to build top quality public transport for your little countries, the US is a very large place, but doesn't excuse the state of things in our larger cities.

No, it's because of the proliferation of suburbs, and the fact that America's huge.

Suburbs 15-20 miles away mean that the transit systems need to be extended extremely far to get commuters, who usually drove cars anyway.

With America being such a large country, cars became widespread among even urban populations. Plus, it spreads out the population drastically. England is 1/3 the size of California, with 10 million MORE people. Of course your government would prioritize and implement public transport, you're crammed into a tiny space, while the US deals with serving a country over 76 times your size (not counting Alaska and Hawaii).
>>
>>68535135
>why do you have such bad public transport?

Affordable cars meant that people didn't have to live in the urban shitholes, and could just drive to and from work in the cities.

Most of our nation is built around the fact that people own their own cars and would rather drive themselves around rather than use some kind of public transportation.

I didn't say it was just size. It's cars too.

It's about size when you talk about building local transportation services. Suburbs 20 miles away, everyone uses cars, and in a 400 square mile area, you can only use the money from say 2-3 million people.

The State government can't give you much money, because all the other people in the state outside of the city are going to not want to pay for something they'll never use.

The Federal Government MAY give you money, but they'll tell you what to do not just for that program, but for many unrelated other programs because they'll likely give it to you in a block grant (anything of significant money value is given as a block grant historically).

So, it's less of an excuse for a lack of a rail system, although east of the Mississippi River the rail and public transportation networks are infinitely better and more widely available, for obvious reasons (lots of people in a smaller space).
>>

>>
>>68537450
The us really developed at the same time as the car as well. California is the case in point where it developed in the post-war boom and was literally designed around everyone owning a car. China is now developing like the US did but it's obvious that designing your infrastructure 100% around cars doesn't really work long term. That said car usage in China is rapidly increasing.http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/china/8680735/Car-use-in-China-factfile.html

That's because, first, it was the U.S. that invested, and pretty much built, the oil infrastructure in the middle east, and second, because we didn't tax the ever loving shit out of petrol the way you Euro dudes did...

Oh fuck off.

You just can't make major mistakes. Drivers are smarter and better than ever today so no one is going to do suicide moves that actually might end up in death etc. Everyone knows the risks. The cars are safer than ever. Alonso survived, fucking horrible Indycar crash this weekend survived blah blah, you can't die in these cars unless you're an idiot. Most drivers only died because their cars lit on fire and they burned to death after they had crashed. To complain about a modern F1 circuit specifically designed with the FIA and Tilke is outrageous.

I'm now supporting Hamilton for the championship.
>>
>>68538973
How old are you m8? When I was just a kid I remember my parents paying like 70c/L, and that was in like 1997-1999. You must be nearly 50 to have had a car when gas was so cheap. I live in Ontario if that makes a difference but it's currently around 90c to $1.15 here nowadays so it doesn't sound any different.

Yea there's no way gas can be that cheap in the last ~30 years unless you're from Venezuela or some shit

I honestly can't wait for electric cars just because oil niggers will get BTFO and I don't have to pay all this money to drive some shitty car around anymore.

If petrol/diesel cars got outlawed as of today, I can't think of many nations that would lose that I particularly care about. Norwegian economy is literally built on oil but they were actually smart enough to not blow it all on sheik nigger shit and build palaces and have actually prepared for the eventuality of oil dying, so I think they will be fine as Norse are bros. Other than that I guess its a big deal in Canada but you have other shit going on as well. Let oil die (or be reserved only for motorsport spectacle preferrably)

I always thought the internal combustion engine would end up like the vinyl record or the mechanical watch. Obosolete in many ways but highly regarded in smaller numbers in the enthusiast circles. People like Horatio Pagani and others would still be making beautiful cars with big engines. Turns out they'll probably just ban them lol. Heartless fuckers.

Also Heikki Kovalainen's ""performance"" in the Lotus 2013 as Kimi's replacement ensured that a team will never hire an ex-F1 driver again (K-Mag and Gutierrez had a year of involved simulator work etc)

A friend of mine told me the story of how he happened to meet some guys from Europe (Sweden, I think) in New York one summer. They'd just arrived, and were renting a car (so was he). He said welcome to America and all that and asked them what their plans were. They went something like

"We're going to from here to D.C., then on to Miami, after that we're going to New Orleans, then Texas, the Grand Canyon, Los Angeles, San Francisco, up to Seattle, then back through Chicago to New York."

He asked them how long they were staying for their trip.

"Two weeks."

Europeans really don't grasp just how large this country is.

(Rough mental math says their itinerary was about 16,000 km.)

Haha, probably that too.

But even though large stretches of that route have decent limits (125+kph), expecting high-density or mountain pass stretches to support Autobahn speeds is wildly unrealistic.

BTW, NY-to-LA record is ~26.5 hours.
