Half of our players play in MEMELS, so they actually look forward to international play more than club play. It's the complete opposite in the case of England, where international competition is viewed simply as a reprieve from club play, so players give lackadaisical effort.
There's also a much bigger financial incentive to play well for the USMNT than your club team if you're not a world class player making bank in Europe.
Guys like Donovan and Dempsey have obtained far more money and recognition than they otherwise normally would for being stars on the USMNT.
