Because this flag was used between 1920-1944, our Coat of Arms is still our national symbol.
In the 90's there was a little debate between the left and right if which coat of arms should be on the flag (there is another one which is the same just without the crown on the top), etc.
In the end, the crown version won, but for political reasons its not on the official flag.
Plus tricolor is more aesthetic I guess. even if we are sideways italy now.

First of all I think the Austrian team was/is pretty overrated. But the Hungarian team played a very good game, the whole team fought with heart and more importantly the team managed to convert Storcks tactical plan on the pitch. Round of 16 is pretty much secure at this point, I don't know if it's possible but a Romania - Hungary draw would be great for the banter.
Also I had basically my whole bankroll (3,50€) on hungary to win now I can keep losing bets the whole tournament, Köszi for that!

Decent. Your team is weak, but the players put a lot of effort in and both goals were actually well-created.
It's slightly diminished by the fact that Austria is a garbage team that was hyped to no end by idiots whose expertise is limited to comparing players by what leagues they play in and declaring anyone a dark horse whose squad has 10+ players starting for teams in decent leagues. Funnily enough, this is only the case for teams that usually aren't expected to perform well. If you look at Italy for example, they field a team that is considerably weaker than what is expected of them, yet all of their starters are starters for teams in well-respected leagues and they still have an above average squad. Yet people are constantly shitting on them.

I'm Polish. I am so proud of Hungary. Easily the most satisfying win of the tourney so far. I'm rooting for you guys, massive respect. When the first goal scorer celebrated with the crowd it legit moved me. It also helps that Austria are rated so highly for really no reason, so its great to see them get BTFO. My family is part Hungarian so this was nice to see.
I've tried learning about the history of the Austro Hungarian empire, about the Hapsburgs and all that, a couple times but I've never been clear on why Hungary was ever part of it. To an outsider it just seemed like you guys just got screwed at every possible opportunity during all that.

In 19th century everybody wanted a own country. Hungarian culture wasn't part of empire, the official language was german and latin, hungary had little impact on policies ----> 1848 revolution, which was successful until russians involved and we got rekt in 1849.
For 15-20 years there was a real austrian dictatorship here, so in 1867 it was a good thing to make a confederational state, where hungary had serious impact on policies and big autonomy.
I'd accept that empire now + I hope Croatia would be with us again, they are nice guys.
