States in the US have devolved government, and so do the countries of the UK (apart from England). So there are some similarities
Also it's a good way to explain it to foreigners because Wales, Scotland, NI are of course not sovereign states themselves. There's few other cases in the world where there are "countries" that are not sovereign states.
