Depends on how you look at it. I think the names are a little embarrassing. But they're created for an audience doesn't REALLY love soccer or know that much about the places where these teams play.
Part of that has to do with the franchise nature and lack of history of these sports teams. Sure, the teams could go digging for artifacts that connect the name of the team to something truly significant in the region or city but they don't usually do that. I guess it take too much work? the first thing I would suggest is to find the names of teams that existed in the earliest time of organized sports and just continue with that.
They basically just choose names based on what kids would like I think. Kids love shit like dinosaurs and cartoon renderings of wild animals.
