Why have I never seen a thread about Canadian Football, /sp/?
>>
>>67217102
You know why
>>
>>67217102
>Edmonton is in the red Calgary area
>Redblacks are south of the Argos and Ticats
>The Maritimes cheer for the Touchdown Atlantics
What is up with this map?
>>
Because it's not that popular.
>>
canada needs to swallow their pride and merge the CFL with the NFL. maybe then goodell will stop spouting his london memes. this is an american sport and canada is an honorary america.
>>
>>67217102
it lacks the appeal

though with all the wank, i don;t know why the usa doesn't have televised arena, college, highschool and cfl on their nfl networks. instead of just waiting around for the nfl.

watch a guy play in highschool, make college, too small and goes cfl, makes nfl for special teams. it'd be poetic.

sports channels in the usa have a digusting trend of not playing any sports
>>
>>67218048
high school football is painful to watch
>>
I've often wondered why Canada has a separate football league to the USA when they play in all the other American sports leagues.

Why is this?
>>
>>67223320
Canadian football actually has different rules
>>
>>67223384
They should abandone Canadian football and just play real football.
>>
>>67223320

It's like saying aussie rules and rugby league should be 1 league. nFL AND CFL are basically different sports
>>
>>67223425
They do play soccer and guess what? They're shit at it.

They are essentially the same with some minor rule differences.

Aussie rules is actually very different from rugby league, as big as the difference between football and basketball.
>>
This entire thread is amazing and that needs to be recognized.
>>
>>67223453
league and union would have been a far better comparison
>>
>>67217102
why do you never see threads about arena football league?
>>
>>67218048
ESPN is airing arena football on the weekends
>>67218079
HS is even less balanced than college football one team drafts a 6'8 400 pound samoan and they just coast to the state championship
>>
>>67225041
I have tho and none of them have been the raging success of this thread.
>>
>>67224950
They should really be one sport, I still don't understand the difference between them. If those faggots in NSW and QLD just gave up on NRL and started playing Union we'd shit all over the Kiwis.
>>
>Metric system
>>
>>67224950
Differences between Canadian and American football are way less than league and union.

I wouldn't be so sure
>>
>>67223320
>Why is this?

Because in the other three, one country or the other didn't care about the sport. Canada didn't give a shit about baseball or basketball until they dropped a team in our country. America didn't give a shit about hockey until we started putting teams in their cities
>>
>>67223471
he said real football not soccer.
>>
>>67225439
So how did football become popular in Canada?
>>
>>67225562
Same way it did in murrica. The Brits brought over rugby or some variation of it and over the years they formed their own offshoots of the sport. They actually developed mostly independently of one another, although Canadian Football was of course heavily influenced by gridiron.
>>
>>67217102
Because you're a new fag
>>
The CFL is really fun to watch but if you want it to be big time take 5 expansion clubs into the NFL.

Vancouver
Edmonton
Calgary
Toronto
Montreal

kek how many teams go to playoffs
>>
Learn to fucking count their's 9 teams
>>
>>67225649
its actually opposite. Canadian football came first then came american football
>>
>>67226253
perhaps you should learn to fucking spell retard
>>
>>67225697
This would severly water down the talent pool of the NFL. Only Toronto deserves an NFL team. The CFL could withstand loosing one team but any more would mean the death of the CFL.
>>
>>67223425
If they did that they'd have to stop using the egg
>>
>>67226302
>Loosing

Fuuuuuuuuck
>>
>>67226302
Why can't they set up an entirely new team?
>>
>>67226186
6. You have to suck not to make the playoffs.
>>
Because you're new.
There's always threads prior to the start of the NFL season.
>>
>>67226393
In Toronto? They probably could. Attendance would slip for a CFL team in a city that also has an NFL team, though.
>>
>>67226302
>Only Toronto deserves an NFL team
They don't even support their CFL team, why should they get one from the US?

>>
>>67226570
They are simply the biggest market in canada. That's it. Bufallo plays games there and they go over well. Bring an NFL team to Toronto for the market size, let them be marketed as 'Canada's team' so the whole nation supports them and they'll thrive. I'm from the West coast in BC and have always cheered the seahawks and that won't change but I would definitely follow a Toronto team closely as well.
>>
>>67218048
EPSN2 ran 20 CFL games last year.
>>
If fucking Green Bay can get a team then the Saskatchewan Roughriders should be qualified to join the NFL.
>>
>>67226522
Torontonians deserve to remain Buffalo fans indefinitely.
>>
>>67217329
apparently Hamilton is in Thunder Bay and Labrador isn't part of Canada.
>>
>>67226044
>Saskatchewan get out reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

t. Stampeders
>>
>>67217329
I'm not sure you know where Edmonton is
>>
>>67227670
He means that the Edmonton section on the map is way further North of where Edmonton actually is.
>>
>>67226994
good thing the fudgemen have been around for, like, 100 years and are only still around because the league grandfathered their ownership structure, effectively ensuring that they never leave green bay.

maybe if the saskekskahsgjgthachejdcbajebvaksjjdhdan ruffrijders were around 100 years ago, they could play the enefell too.
>>
>>67233026
The Roughriders were founded in 1910. The Packers in 1919.
>>

I think thatwebm gave me cancer
>>
>>67217658
It's the second most popular spectator sport in the country.
>>
>>67217988
You would have to play CFL rules for that to work, NFL rules are cancerous, and unwatchable.
>>
>>67217102
Met some Redblacks coaches flying coach one time in Atlanta, lel
>>
>>67226302
Toronto would never work. NFL is in the winter, they would be taking a backseat to hockey.

That would be the only city in the NFL where it wasn't the biggest sport.

The Jays and Raptors work because they are the only teams in Canada and they get tv views across the country.

But the rest of Canada already has their local football teams. They might casually watch a Toronto NFL team, but it would be divided between CFL. There would be still two other CFL teams just in Ontario competing for football fans.
>>
It should be treated like european football league. Worst nfl teams get relegated to Canada
>>
>>67218048

High school football is televised in the USA. At least in the midwest you can watch your school live on the local cable channel and again on the replay on saturday.

The NFL network exists to promote only the NFL.

AFL (arena) is on ESPN2.

I always liked watching CFL games. They should be on one of the networks, especially since Americans now have 3 major sports networks on cable- ESPN, FSN (fox sports) and NBCUniversal
>>
>>67238651
I think the best answer is have the Seahawks play in Vancouver, the Lions or Bills in Toronto and the Pats or Jets in Montreal.

Once every couple of years they play an international game. That way the Buffalo Bills don't leave Buffalo but the NFL can still get Canadians interested in the game.
>>
Aren't there two teams with the exact same name in the CFL?
>>
>>67238651
they dont have to sell out 162 games a year its only 8 home games a year and they can schedule them when the leafs are away
>>
>>67217102
CFL is like the MLS 1.0 of football.
>>
I watch the CFL sometimes when it's on. The quality of play is above college and Arena. They need to add a few more teams to get to 12 to make it a little more varied. The Maritimes, Saskatoon, and Quebec City or something. When you have 9 teams and play an 18 game schedule it gets redundant.
>>
>>67226275
when did Canadian Football show up, because we (US) had rugby, then Teddy Roosevelt and friends legalized the forward pass in the 1920s to protect the bright young minds of Harvard &shit.
>>
>>67226816
I'm not even Canadian and I know that Toronto is Canada's most American city.

Canadians look down on it for that reason.
>>
>>67244511
There are the Roughriders and the Rough Riders, because reasons.
>>
>>67238269
>punting on 3rd down
>>
>>67245624
The Ottawa Rough Riders (nowadays they have the Ottawa Redblacks) went defunct in the 90s. So there are no longer two teams with the same name.
>>
>>67245675
You only get three downs, which adds a certain je ne sais quoi
>>
>>67225333
What the fuck are the rules here, jesus christ

I can't tell if this is pure gold or rancid shit. Either way I want to see more. We need an American team in the CFL
