The kicker is espn has the sjw mob on their side, including the only well known sports media critic, Richard Dietsch who is a massive sjw.

So the narrative on moves like these will be that espn is winning by getting rid of dead weight while fs1 are idiots.

But the fact remains, regardless of your opinion on first take ppl tuned in to watch. Mostly unemployed black ppl, but still.

Espn is rolling with their sjw mob and will have several race bait shows.

Fox is rolling with big personalities and telling them to do whatever they wanna do. Katie Nolan, Clay Travis, Skip, Cowherd, Whitlock Jay and Dan, etc... Big personalities.

Skip is the biggest retard on that network. I don't understand how anyone is acting like him leaving is bad news. The ESPN formula is to let not ugly white people with communications degrees marinate on Sports Center before moving them up and mixing in retired athletes, some of who can barely speak coherently, plus token minorities. They can save lots of money and get someone else to do what Skip did. If they luck out the person who replaces him won't be a shit for brains retard like he was.

>ESPN is losing money at an accelerated pace,

right, but not because of ratings
its because they built their business model on cable subscribers and so many people don't subscribe to cable anymore that its hurting them bad.
their ratings still rape the shit out of fs1 and nbcsports. thought i have no idea why

>ESPN is going to be nothing but white women and niggers soon

Literally catering to their audience.

What else would you expect from (((Disney))) anyway?
>>
>>67128891
While cable subscribers are dropping off ESPN demands higher prices per subscriber than other cable channels. It has more to do with rights for live sports bleeding them.
>>
>>67128891

>built their business model on cable subscribers

Yes, but so have a ton of other networks who aren't in deep shit like ESPN.

ESPN's channel fee on every cable/sat subscribers bill is over 7 dollars per month. Every single person in America who has a cable package is paying ESPN over 7 dollars every single month.

The 2nd most expensive channel on cable/sat bills is TBS, at just a hair over 1 dollar per month.

And ESPN forced their way into every single package on every single provider. Nobody can get a cable package anywhere without paying 7 dollars to ESPN every month. So when subscribers were high, times were good for ESPN. They had all this revenue which allowed them to bid high on every sport and carry everything...thus blowing away all their competition.

But the downside to that is cord cutting will destroy their business model while it'll just hurt the others. Murdoch and Fox for example don't desperately need those sub monthly fees cuz they have many other ways of generating revenue.

tldr; ESPN's business model was perfect for the short term and terrible for the long term. What we're seeing now is still the beginning of a monumental downsizing at ESPN that will leave the network as a shell of its former self. And Murdoch smells blood in the water and they're all in at FS1.

they overpaid yes, but they've lost over a billion dollars in subscriber fees in the last year or so.

that's what's fucking them

They never get the big NFL games either.

CBS gets their pick to protect any AFC game every week.
FOX gets their pick to protect any NFC game every week.
NBC gets the biggest game of the week (as guessed before the season started), but are allowed to flex games later in the season, but they can't flex a game that FOX or CBS has protected.

And ESPN gets whatever on Monday Night. And they're paying out the ass for it.

It used to be only amateur sports, and people tend to have an association with either the school they went to or a school in their state.

When I lived in Tennessee, a majority of people were University of Tennessee Knoxville (UTK) fans, even though a significant number of them never attended.

The same thing happens for schools like Notre Dame, USC, Oregon, etc.
>>
>>67129385
The Michigan/Michigan State rivalry is a big part of it here. Otherwise people would mostly agree when it comes to sports teams.
>>
>>67129248
Pro Sports was really fractured for ages with mountains of subleagues and divisions. Pro Baseball was big because it unified first and started to absorb the smaller fragmented leagues into itself with a lot of the teams becoming part of the entire feeder system up to the Major Leagues.

The NBA took a lot longer to merge with the ABA-NBA Merger and Pro Handegg only really came into prominance with the start of the Super Bowl Era and the AFL/NFL merger. Combine this with the rise of national TV networks and you get a lot of the modern US Pro Sports landscape.

College Sports were always accessible on the local level as it was tied heavily towards relatively local rivalries and under a centralized body of the NCAA
>>

Ohio St/Michigan is another big one.

Penn State vs Everyone.

They need to fucking fix Sportscenter to actually cover every sporting event of the day like it used to, not just talk about the one thing with random scores mixed in.
>>
>>67129706
This is why I usually end up watching the Canadian version from TSN instead.
>>
>>67129736
I don't even watch anything anymore. It's so much easier to just get the info I want online or podcasts/radio.

That being said, does anyone else remember when Sportscenter was THE show to watch? They would do a segment on every game played that day even when football, hockey, and basketball were all on at the same time.

Now it's just "LeBron isn't following the Cavs on Twitter" 24/7. Fucking awful.
>>
FS1 actually has pretty good sports programming. I'm not a NASCAR fan but their NASCAR coverage throughout the week is pretty good. Their baseball stuff is much better than ESPN's.

Their prob is that ppl are just used to ESPN and don't try new things.
>>
>>67129780
The Canadian one still does for the most part even though it's heavy on hockey, which really doesn't bother me because that's my main interest.
>>
>>67129813
Fox has always had superior NASCAR coverage to other networks. I'd go to sleep if I had to watch it on NBC.
>>
>>67129248
With the exception of baseball most major sports started with large college fanbases and weak professional leagues. It hasn't been until the past 50 or so years that professional sports have ruled sports culture in the US. University sports teams operate a lot like athletic clubs in European countries do, in that they often represent smaller groups of people and in many areas are the only high-profile teams available to root for. It has a lot to do with local pride, involvement, and investment, where as professional franchises are still seen as separate entities from the people. College sports, depending on who you ask, are losing more and more ground to the professional leagues, but because they allow the pros a convenient feeder league with none of the investment they'll stick around as long as there's no radical change.
>>
>>67129780
I remember when sportscenter wasn't a show about anything other than sports. when it was a show that had more to do with sports than access hollywood.

Remember the ep where they were riffing a la MST3k and Mike & the bots came in?

ESPN is the Lehman Brothers of the sports rights bubble. They bought a lot of shit for a long time and won't have the money to pay for it if cable subscriptions keep falling (which they will).

>>67129248
Pro sports leagues don't bother setting up teams outside of major cities. Pretty much every university, on the other hand, has a team that the alumni root for. Our college athletics system is way more similar to how European soccer teams work where there are numerous local squads and only a handful of them are relevant but small teams can work their way up over time.
>>
>>67132127

College sports are where American football and basketball were made. It's the pros that are the offshoot with less established fanbases than the college bluebloods.

ESPN got outbid on NASCAR and lost the NHRA to FOX. The only thing they have left is the Indianapolis 500 and a few other IndyCar races.

I'd cum my pants if they brought Thursday Night Thunder back, though. IRP is quite possibly my favorite track anywhere.
