Atomic hasn't played since Indian Wells. Also clay is his worst surface by far with a career winning % of 40. He would've probably lost in the first or second round if he played Barcelona.

I think he just needs to take clay more seriously. Practice more on it and so on. But the real problem lies much deeper. Aussies and Americans have grown up on fast hard courts, not on slow clay courts. It is no wonder that the decline of American and Australian tennis happened at the same time that courts started becoming slower, more clay-like.
