Kovalev vs Ward in the fall gets one step closer.

Ward vs Kovalev is a 50/50, stop arguing, you spergs. Kovalev can actually box, throw combinations and Ward actually hits pretty hard.

You just watched Ward go life and death with a 34 year old Cuban bum.

He was shit at 168, he's double the shit at 175.

He better just duck Kovalev or he's gonna get fucked up
>>
>>66419875
60/40

Ward can hit hard as he wants but he doesn't get Kovalevs attention.

It all comes down to whether or not Ward and set his gameplan to effectively exploit Kovalevs balance. Thats where I see Ward having the most effect against Kovalev.
>>
>>66419875
It's more like 80-20 in KKK's favor. Any advantage Ward has in raw boxing talent is significantly narrower than Kovalev's power advantage. Not to mention the fact that Kovalev want to beat the shit out of you when you step into the ring with him. He doesn't fuck around. Every shot he takes in meant to wound, whereas Andre tries to set you up and to outpoint you. Kovalev is truly a great professional boxer.
>>
>>66419916
He looked like he had more trouble with Smith than Barrera. Then again, it might've been that extra rust.

Didn't bother with the Smith fight. Only even watched tonight to mock him. It turned out to be a good plan.

He's got no future at LHW. I'd even take Fonfara/Hopkins/Stevenson to beat him. Kovalev will just beat his ass.

He should end him. He's a natural LHW who could probably fight at cruiser. The most powerful puncher in the sport. The thing is though, old Hopkins took him the distance. Ward is basically young Hopkins. It could be a very close fight.

B) He was punching back and defending himself. He didn't just shell up and stand there.

He was lucky the ref got the eye looked at when he did. I think the ref was 100% in the right.

Lol, yeah young Hopkins with handspeed, foot speed and actual power
>>
>>66424447

and Hopkins was literally and virtually defending 95 % of the time in rounds 2-11. This is how you can tell someone hasn't watched the fights. Only times when it seemed like Hopkins could go heem sleepy were the first and last round, the only rounds when he somehow opened up for some moments.

The "le hopkins went distance" isn't an indicator of any sort. Kovalev was power, and he has a lot of it. And Ward isn't going to just defend the whole night and hope for the better. If he does, it's over for him, distance or not.

Also Hopkins doesn't have the same style as Ward, cut this bullshit. He's way more defensive.

I still say 50/50, just calling you on your """"conclusions""" based on flimsy evidence-la
>>
Cant fucking wait for Ward vs Kovalev. Best fight in boxing. Fuck that CaneLOL vs lil G bullshit. This fight is for the #1 p4p spot. I give a slight edge to Ward but this fight is gonna be a close one

I don’t get why, so maybe you shouldn’t leave it to the referee. Now you’re not going to take him out to the face, you’re going to take him out to the body

based eubank senior saw it coming.

>>66425766
those brutal uppercuts were the same shots that fucked up watson. still not convinced that junior isn't a meme fighter.

Why is everyone so hard on Jr.?
His dad, I can understand, he was always cocky and weird as fuck and all the cocaine and brain damage didn't do him any favors.
But it seems like most people don't like Jr. because they take his autistic/anti-social behavior as cockiness which is a bit unfair to the lad.
>>
>>66425793

>>
>>66420600

Ward didn't really land anything noticeable. Lol @ bringing up an amateur record. Guy's 34 years old with 17 pro fights and his best win is that arab guy.

Ward is considered "p4p" and he goes 12 hard rounds with this guy?

>oooh but he won on points

>>
When Wilder BTFO Povetkin will you niggers finally give him some credit or is it just gonna be more hate?
>>
>>66427177
if Wilder knocks Povetkin out, I'll blame it on his ridiculous size advantage, similar to Wlad v. Povetkin, the only time Povetkin has looked ridiculous. But it won't happen anyway, though if it happens - I'll give him some credit, may be top 5 HW for the last 6 months kek. Great achievement
>>
>>66427089

>implying Ward could beat either one of those

He couldn't even discourage Barrera

>>66427177
If he beats him of course he gets credit

>>66427206
Povetkin didn't look ridiculous. Wlad looked ridiculous with all that holding and mauling and the ref did nothing about it. Wlad's a joke.
>>
>>66427206
basically the three legit HWs today are Ortiz, Wlad and Fury. You step below, and there be dragons.

The rest of the top 10 you can play around as much as you want. You can lump Joshua, Browne, Parker, Wilder, Pulev, Charles Martin, Haye in there and move them around as you please, I wouldn't care. Povetkin is the most solid top 4 contestant of all them in terms of skill and resume, but he's also one of the smallest guys, so he can be beaten. If Wilder beats those in this top 10 excluding the first 3 I mentioned, at best I'd be generous to say he's top 4 with possible 3rd place contender. Nothing above though
>>
>>66427206
>similar to Wlad v. Povetkin, the only time Povetkin has looked ridiculous.
Wlad didn't beat Povetkin due to a size advantage or "fighting tall", he beat him by just blatantly cheating, pushing his head down and buying off the ref to get away with it. Wilder won't have this advantage as the fight will be in Povetkin's backyard.

I don't like Deontay Wilder. I hate how he acts childish and its not a good look for a HW champion. That being said I can see him beating every top current heavyweight (Povetkin, Fury, Ortiz, Wlad). His power is overrated but he has range, workrate, boxing ability, and something Fury and Wlad lack - stamina.

If Wilder beats Povetkin in Moscow then he def deserves credit in my book.
>>
>>66427319
seeing him beating every top current heavyweight doesn't say anything. Anyone can defeat anyone once they are there at the top, given some circumstances. What matters is the likeliness of that happening and, obviously, the reality of it happening. Ye, I could also see that Finnish strong puncher KO anyone in the HW division through a bit of luck, doesn't make him the best heavyweight. Likewise, this applies to Wilder.

He deserves credit if he beats Povetkin, but not top 1 level credit. Top 4 or Top 3 is generous enough.
>>
>>66427344
Helenius knocking out anyone in the HW division? He only has 13 KOs from 22 wins. You just posted about the likeliness of something happening and then posted something that's very unlikely to happen.

Wilder is definitely a top 3 hw. Why not? Who could you have ahead of him? Ortiz?
>>
This guy from Spain might be the worst post I've ever seen on /sp/
>>
>>66427177
If Wilder beats Povetkin I'll rate him as the real deal and a legitimate world class contender yes. Should be a great fight either way hopefully.
>>
>>66427517
on the contrary, I consider it unlikely to happen. But it's probable. Yes, Ortiz.

Just watched it. Wow Ward looked like hot garbage. The jump in weight shows, his workrate has slowed down tremendously, he wasn't setting up his power shots, just swinging wildly. He even resorted to cheap shots at the end of rounds which is something he's never done before.

Ward only landed some opportunity counter shots cause of Sullivan's sloppy as shit defense. Put this same Ward against Bad Chad and its a much different fight.

Anyway not only does Kovalev beat Ward but he knocks him out.

Also it was pretty disgusting HBO and Roy Jones dicksucking of Ward. "He's throwing homerun left hooks in there even when they're not landing." KEK
>>
>>66419849
Sullivan is the same height as Kovalev and Ward was flailing left hooks all night. The ones he did land, save for the knockdown did no damage at all. And Kova fights tall and uses spacing very effectively. Kovalev has supreme defense.

>>66419875
It's not 50/50. I'd say it's closer to 80/20 after how awful Ward looked against Sullivan. He looked finished. Kovalev is going to retire him. Too much time off and the jump in weight doesn't help at all.

Top kek at the near shutout they're giving to Ward. What a joke. Sullivan scraped more than 1 fucking round in there.

P4P may be, but at this very moment Kovalev > Ward = Golovkin. Still, P4P Kovalev would be the third best and Golovkin probably the first.

Golovkin is very overrated and underrated at the same time. The majority of non-biased "muh fuck whitey" professionals in boxing will tell you GGG is THE real deal, because you can see it in his fights, whether he fights A+ competition or not. His sparring sessions, versatility, chin, accuracy, power and incredible stamina make him a total machine.

To sum up: he punches as hard as Kovalev at a lower weight category, he has an iron chin if not the best at the moment in boxing out of the top fighters, he has better stamina, he is more versatile than Kovalev, his amateur career simply shits on almost any of the professional fighters' right now. All the problems regarding him are about promotion and him not having top competition to fight. But I'm quite sure he'd humiliate top competition too, slick bruvas or not. In fact, I'm not even excited for the GGG-Canelo fight, because I can tell you Golovkin will bully Canelo into submission. Probably even Lara-GGG would be more exciting for me.
>>
>>66511940
however he's overrated when people say something like he's a GOAT material, because to be a GOAT you really need a good resume and he doesn't have that.

Also kek at all black American or black cucks in general who like Ward so much, when his mother was black and left him very soon after he was born and was completely raised by a white father who he loves the most. Fuck, the dude behaves whiter than many whites. Yet blacks perceive him as some sort of "black hope".

Still has to beat Canelo though, just to get that name on his record.

Not really sure how he'd handle going up in weight, he's not a particularly big middleweight, would be interesting to see how he'd fare against someone with a clear height/reach advantage

yes, going up in weight would actually be very interesting. I dont think there is anyone 160 or below who can really bring a very competitive fight with GGG. He probably will never be a LHW, but of course at the end of the career he will be SMW and then probably go to UFC when he's 40+ and destroy everyone there.

10-6

10. Ricardo Lopez
9. Juan Manuel Marquez
8. Pernell Whittaker
7. Evander Holyfield
6. Oscar de la Hoya

My prediction for the top 5 is in this order:
5. Bernard Hopkins
4. Julio Cesar Chavez
3. Roy Jones Jr
2. Manny Pacquiao
1. Floyd Mayweather Jr

I will be triggered if they put Pacquiao above Mayweather
>>
>>66511940

Canelo's people know this so they'll duck as long as possible or fight a reason not to fight him at all.

Not sure about him being better than Kovalev, but they're both pretty fucking good so I wouldn't argue.

I never bought into the Ward hype. A lot of badly reffed fights and cherrypicks in the Super 6 gave him more credit than he's worth. He's nothing more to me than a basic spoiler that's been protected by refs and judges. I'd take either GGG or Kova to knock him out.
>>
>>66512001

He's definitely GOAT material. Its not his fault no big names wanna fight him. It should bear out eventually. He's obviously one of the best mw's to come along in a long time.

I mean, shit, they used to hype Jermain Taylor and Kelly Pavlik at one point ffs. And they didn't really beat anyone either. Seems like GGG's held to a different standard for some reason.
>>
>>66514096
Ward is dirty, but an entertaining type of defensive fighter. He's technically godly though and versatile and can adjust hm well. The guy got golden medal in Olympics, what else do we need to say? He beat Kessler, Froch, humiliated Chad Dawson.

On paper and having watched his "prime" he was no doubt better than what we've seen from Kovalev and GGG. He defeated 3 elite fighters, mate, in their prime. So don't talk shit. Also there is nothing badly reffed about the fights except that he should have been penalized. He still got the majority of the rounds in all those fights, so it wouldn't have changed much.

Only reason why I say a Kovalev fight is a 50/50 for him is because he's the smaller fighter. He went up a division, he's fighting now bigger guys. Bigger guys with a great KO rate who throws like 80-100 punches a round in his prime. He may very well KO Ward. I haven't ruled out of all scenario an early KO, as incredible as it may sound.

I also haven't ruled out a Ward KO of Kovalev. I know it was in amateur, but Kovalev HAS been knocked out cold, it just took the right moment. He has a chin, a very good one, but it's for some reason vulnerable.

Likewise, I haven't ruled out a Kovalev UD. Very underrated boxer, hasn't even shown all the tricks in his bag going by what I've seen of his training footages. Not that he will outbox Ward from a technical standpoint, but he will land more precisely because his technique isn't shabby at all, so he might outpoint him.
>>
>>66514198
Jermain Taylor beat Bernard Hopkins though. There was some reason behind his hype

>>
I only now watched highlights from Ward's performance against Sullivan, will watch the whole thing later, but from what I've seen so far Ward didn't look particularily impressive. Was he getting caught so much or those were shots cherrypicked for highlights purposes?
>>

>>
>>66514198

Those were awful fights. "prime" hopkins was shit.

>>66514569

>humiliated dawson

Yeah, at 168 after Dawson had been Ko'd

The Froch fight was meh. I didn't see anything dominating about it. Just a shitty decision. Kessler was headbutted into submission and the fight had 80 something clinches.

A proper ref not in front of his hometown would've definitely penalized him if not outright disqualify him.

Dawson had previously been damaged by Stevenson if my memory serves me right and coming down in weight totally fucked him. Ward is a mirage. He also had the easiest run in the super 6 due to all fights at home and being allowed to duck Dirrell and face some journeybum replacements.

As for him being smaller. He's not smaller. He was big for 168, which also helped him win there. He'll be fighting guys his own size now and as we saw with even a pedestrian guy like Barrera, it doesn't look good for him.
>>
>>66519027
Dawson fought Stevenson after Ward.
Dawson also was the one who said he'd go down in weight to fight Ward
>>
Time is AB fighting?
>>
>>66519053

It was a bad move on Dawsons part. He probably got desperate and thought he could make 168 when he clearly couldn't do it. Big mistake.

Point remains, Ward had a lot of help to make him undefeated and his fights are clearly rigged.

>>66527608
His problem is that he clearly doesn't take his training very seriously.

Actually he can beat shit out of Povetkin since he's much much faster, has a strong punch and advantage in the distance. Povetkin is all about combinations in the short distance.

He's a foot taller and showing good defense, not retarded. His opponent doesn't land a shot on him and he answers with a clean body shot although I would have gone for the chin.

Also I don't see Wlad winning the rematch.
>>
>>66536272
well, first of all the nigger wasn't displaying good offense.
>>
>>66513414
Pacquiao has had many, many more fights with greater fighters than Mayweather has.
>>
>>66540410
>Pacquiao has had many, many more fights with greater fighters than Mayweather has.

He has more fights with them because he lost or won disputed decisions.

In terms of names on their records, the only major difference is that Pacquiao fought Barrera and Morales whereas Mayweather fought Gennaro Hernandez.

Also consider that Pacquiao's victories against de la Hoya, Hatton and Mosley came after Mayweather was finished with them
>>
>>66540956
A disputed decision is better than having not fought them.

Mosley, ODLH, and Hatton aren't anything special during the time that either fighter fought them. You also have to consider than Mayweather fought the same gusy Pacquiao fought but Pacquiao is a much smaller fighter than Mayweather.
>>
>>66541262
Who hasn't Mayweather fought that would have been a realistic fight to have actually occured?

Mosley had just spanked Margarito and was labelled by Freddie Roach as being too dangerous for Pacquiao before he fought Mayweather.

Hatton was objectively one of the top p4p boxers in the 2-3 years before fighting Mayweather.

I will grant you that de la Hoya was past his prime when Mayweather fought him, however in that fight, de la Hoya was the one dictating terms, so the gloves they used were like pillows etc.

And vis a vis the weight thing, yes, true, but Pacquiao also fought at catchweights and de la Hoya hadn't fought at welterweight for about 7 years before the Pacquiao fight.

I am not disputing Pacquiao being an all time great boxer, just that Mayweather had a superior career.
>>
>>66540410
>>66540956

I think its clear that mayweather is the superior boxer. Pound for pound mayweather was the king. But pacquaio had way more exciting and meaningful carreer. Way more dramatic and all around a greater fighter.
>>
>>66541596

Amir Khan instead of Maidana, and of course the blatant Pacquiao duck for like 7 years.
>>
>>66541668
Amir Khan talked himself out of the fight with Mayweather.

And Bob Arum's grudge against Mayweather is the reason the fight with Mayweather never happened earlier
>>
>>66541720

Mayweather made a poll on his website about who to fight next. It was between Maidana and Khan. Khan won the poll but still didn't get the fight. Then after that Khan just spent 2 years trying to get the fight.

I don't see how you can blame bob arum when he fought Cotto who was under top rank. Why would he do business with bob arum for the Cotto fight but not the pacquiao fight. Doesn't make sense.
>>
>>66541596
Mayweathers pre-ODLH career is what made him an ATG. I don't know why you focus on everything after that. Are there better fights that could easily have taken place during that time? Fuck yes and only a very biased person would say otherwise.
>>
>>66541820

Cus it wasn't till the ODLH fight he become the major attraction he is now.

Tbf mayweather fought tons of great fighters, its impossible for him to fight literally everyone you want. His track record is pretty good tho.
>>
>>66541920
Star power has nothing to do with ATG'ness.

It has nothing to do with wanting to fight everyone I want him to fight at the perfect time. It has everything to do with every great challenge that could have happened during his 19 year career it was avoided. He spent his entire career fighting good fighters but no great ones. He ranks right beside Larry Holmes for me.
