>Euros still use the Away Goals rule
Will this ever change?

>>65668000
Practically all soccer tournaments use this.

What other rule should we use?

I work for FIFA.
>>65668000
mls uses it.
>>65668000
whats wrong with the away goals rule?
they had to come up with something because the semen-slurping sport has too many ties, no point in playing an odd number of games because ties can cause overall series ties, so they have another tiebreaker in the rules, and it makes as much sense as any
its better than free kicks in my mind. its not like hockey where it comes down to goalie skill, in soccer the goalie has to guess completely, its totally luck based if they make a save
>>65668069
literally only european football uses away goals as a rule
WOULD YOU RATHER DECIDE THE OUTCOME THROUGH COIN TOSSING?????????????????????????????????????????????????????
>>65668341
Copa Libertadores too, m8
>>65668341
South America does it too. The rest of the world is irrelevant.
>>65668341
Copa Libertadores too
>>65668341
MLS and Mexican soccer leagues use away goals, m8. Pretty sure so do most other of the babby leagues.
>americoins
>>65668150
Why not just make goals scored by the away team be worth 2?
>deciding a NFL play-off winner through coin tossing
>>65668341
delete this
>>65668000
I agree they should play best 4 out of 7 games. Imagine all the ads you could stick in that.
Also penalties should be decide by a coin toss, whoever scores first wins.
>>65670113
Favelabro brings up a good point. The away goals rule is still better than the overtime coin toss.
>>65670204
How the hell do you decide who gets the ball first in OT?
It is a good system, now fuck off.
>>65670216
The whole concept of not allowing both teams a chance to score makes it more one-sided.
>>65668000
what's this guy's name again?
>>65670083
ABSOLUTE MADMAN
>>65670216
You don't finish the game as soon as someone scores, but continue playing until overtime runs out so the other team would have a chance too.
Football had this dumb rule as well, but it was dropped because it sucked. Google "golden goal".
>tfw Trump would never tolerate the away goals rule
Lads let's make UEFA great again.

Once upon a time, a field goal was enough for sudden death. Replacing that with a touchdown is a much better improvement.
If a defense can't even stop a team to a field goal at such a critical situation, they deserve to lose. Deal with it.
What is wrong with the away goal rule?
>>65668000
because a seven game play-off series on alternating home and away bases with one team getting an advantage is way more fair, right?
>>65670538
>If a defense can't even stop a team to a field goal at such a critical situation, they deserve to lose. Deal with it.
How do we know the other team's defense cannot stop them with their defense? They never get a chance to try.
>>65670826
>How do we know the other team's defense cannot stop them with their defense?
Who cares. The only thing that mattered was the defense currently on the field.
The funny thing is. Many of you people think it is easy as fuck to score a touchdown.
what if with two draws neither team advance? Just go extra time then penalty.
>>65671131
extra time sucks
penalty sucks
>>65671045
>trying to defend this
Nobody said it was easy. In football only one side of your team gets to play how the fuck does it make sense to leave a game up to half the starting team (defense/offense). Makes no sense as a team sport.
>>65671683
This ain't college football, that we're talking about. It's the professional level.
>>65671131
NFL should have field goal penalties.
Honestly, I like the rule because unlike in Copa Libertarians, the away team at least tries to counter-attack and not just park the bus for 90 minutes.
The only weird part is when the home team draws at home, say, 1-1, but then goes away and draws 0-0 but does not qualify. In my opinion this should go to ET.

OP seems like a fag, but it's a topic worth discussing.
>>65668327
Yes, there are too many ties in soccer, so an away goal avoids excessive overtime periods. This is especially important in mid-week cup games.
>>65668386
>>65668404
>>65673316
The Libertadores only started using the away goal in 2005. I never cared for them, but I agree with >>65672310 in that it encourages weaker teams to attack.
>>65672170
That would be fun.
It seems like a legit tiebreaker. It is hard to score in soccer/football and even harder to put one in the net on the opponent's home ground.

The rule should not apply if the game goes to extra time in the second leg. How is it fair that one team gets 120 minutes to score an away goal, while the other only gets 90?
>>65675549
>>not using point away rule in playoffs
Why on Earth would this system be used in a seven game series?
>>65675439
>even harder to put one in the net on the opponent's home ground.
Why not use a neutral location instead?
