How fucked is the nfl?
>>
>myles jack news just under mayo retiring
>myles jack is also a linebacker
>myles jack is new jarod mayo

its like pottery
>>
Next is Revis I'm betting money on it
>>
totally fucked, op

jerod mayo was the lifeblood of the league. most people only watched to see him. expect season ticket sales to drop substantially for next year
>>
The only guys who will play more then 10 years are quarterbacks. But the NFL will not die anytime soon. Niggers will take the quick cash even if it means getting CTE.
>>
>>65639192

He's going top 5. Unless pats trade they're not getting him
>>
>>65639199
nice I see what you did there.
>>
Not at all, there are thousands of others more than willing to take his place. This is a drop in the bucket. We're talking about like A dozen guys out of over a thousand in the nfl. Stop being retarded.
>>
>>65639225
I feel tho it will become a trend for players to have short careers. It's clearly starting to catch on.
>>
>>65639225
More and more players are realizing its practically a death sentence to play past 30
>>
> players retire when they get oldrr

Stop the fucking presses.

> but players have never retired early before

Jim brown
Gale sayers
Terrell davis
Barry sanders
Chad Pennington
Daryle lamonica

The league survived. You faggots over react to everything
>>
>>65639268
except it isn't
>>
>>65639237
It clearly hasn't. You're just paying attention to it more since people talk about it. Some players always leave early. Show me actual proof the amount of retirements have gone up.
>>
he was getting cut anyway

that's what the patriots and bill belichek do to you, they use you, they grind you up and spit you out and cut you right before the big payday year hits

all teams do it but patriots more than anyone and it conflicts with their "patriot way" mantra

examples are richard seymour, vince wilfork, deion branch
>>

>>
>>65639386
there are positions where you can get by purely on athleticism, like outfield or catcher.
>>
>>65639324
It's not much money considering the extreme long term impacts on your body
>>
>>65639324

$80 million is what you can expect if you're a decent QB or great at any other position and manage to stay healthy long enough. It's more likely that a football player, even a good one, will make a good deal less than that.

Meanwhile, average starting pitchers like Samardzija make that kind of money in MLB over the course of a single contract.
>>
>>65639455
Outfield maybe, but you're fucking stupid if you think catcher only needs athleticism.
>>
>>65639211
i meant more in a DROTY way
>>
>>65639455
I mean there's the specialty guys like Quintin Berry and Terrance Gore who are known specifically for their speed and will probably make more in their career because of that

what does a catcher really need besides a strong and accurate throw?

Obviously all pro sports are alot harder than casuals like yourself know, otherwise everyone would be doing it.
>>
>>65639562
Where to throw for a double, when to hold on to the ball to prevent the other team from scoring, and signaling the pitcher for which type of ball to pitch.

That's like saying quarterback's not a skill position...
>>
>>65639335
the nfl is playing checkers, but mlb is playing chess
>>
>>65639608
i wasn't including batting skill because you can't get into the MLB if you can't hit. does blocking wild pitches really take more skill than what a linebacker does?
>>
>>65639648
theyre 2 different sports. Youre comparing apples and oranges. A baseball player cant play football and a football player couldn't play baseball.
>>
>>65639690
well that's absolutely not true
a lot of players were 2 or 3 sport athletes
outfielders have been and would be amazing quarterbacks
>>

stopped right there.
>>
>>65639690
i wasn't comparing them someone else implied that baseball players make more money because it takes more skill. i think baseball players make more money because the MLB has been around considerably longer and is a richer organization.

and more cap space. Youre also allowed to over the salary cap in baseball for a year before facing fines.
>>
>>65639757
A large market MLB team also typically has more profitable revenue streams than any NFL team does.

Bo Jackson for fucks sake

>>
>>65639803
Yea some do it fucktard. You said alot. like its that easy for anyone to pick up a ball and have this amazing ability for it. To suggest that its that easy for an outfield to be a good quarter back is completely retarded. Youre marginalizing the entire aspect of both sports because you think throwing things universally makes you great at all sports involving throwing shit. Are qbs and outfielders good dart players too?
>>
>>65639313
One big problem, even the biggest stars like Strasburg or Harper, do AT LEAST, one year in the minors. Jamaal and Daquan don't want to do bus rides as they go to Trenton and Fargo.

>implying you would do the same stuff to your body if you could

>Not letting my sons play football tbf

This is why the league is in trouble in the long term. We used to only see pussy liberal northeasterners say "I wouldn't let my son play football", but now we're seeing average guys, many of whom played football themselves, say that they're not going to let their sons play it. It won't kill the sport at all, but I think the decline in the number of people who play it will lead to a decline in the number of people who watch it. The NBA will surpass the NFL within 30 years imo.
>>
>>65639781
How? I thought football was #1 in the US
>>
>>65641355

It is, but each baseball team has 81 home games instead of 8. They also get local tv deals, and I think they're allowed to sign independent sponsorship deals for equipment.

cuckhoop is hanging on to LeBrons nuts trying to milk him for every last drop of cum he has left.

Soccer is more like it.

Hell cuckhoop has seen steadily deteriorating ratings, not to mention no self respecting white person watches it anymore
>>

>cuckhoop is hanging on to LeBrons nuts trying to milk him for every last drop of cum he has left.

You haven't been watching at all. It's all about Steph Curry right now.

>Soccer is more like it.

Not at all. It's going to keep growing for a bit, then peak, then the Mexican population will become integrated into mainstream American culture and completely forget about it the same way that the Germans and the Italians did 80 years ago.

>Hell cuckhoop has seen steadily deteriorating ratings, not to mention no self respecting white person watches it anymore

The ratings are only down for national cable ratings in the regular season. That's partially because national cable audiences in general have declined. Local broadcasts for most teams have seen increases (except Chicago this season, who have lost 1/8 of their audience because we're all bandwagoning faggots). Playoff ratings are at their highest since the MJ days, and no American league touches the NBA when it comes to international appeal (especially in the almighty Chinese market).
>>
>>65639237
That wouldn't be a bad thing. Players play through their prime and they're done. New, great players come in and fill the void. All in all, looks like a better NFL.
>>
>>65641433
Actually NBA is the fastest growing sport in terms of popularity, soccer is growing very slowly
>>
Up until like the 80s, guys retired early if they suffered a serious injury. You tore your ACL or whatever, and you were gone.

Then in the 80s, a bunch of guys probably retired early because they were coked up or steroids killed them.

90s and 00s guys had longer careers because of better treatment and diets and shit.

Now, with concussions and hearing shit like how Joe Montana can't walk up a flight of stairs, people are back to retiring early the way they should.
>>
>>65639313
How does MLB make enough money to pay all these athletes when its such a regional sport?

Actually the average NFL player's time in the league is 3 years. Only the top 100 guys in the league make it beyond this, even less for low round picks and practice squad players.

>55 man roster x 32 teams = 1,760 active NFL players at any given time plus the 300 or so guys on practice squads, and the other players who are not presently signed, and only 704 of those guys are starters.

tl;dr - the lifespan of an NFL player is already very short and with new concussion discovery will only get shorter, but it doesn't really matter because as long as fans pay to see it and rating are high, it will continue to be king. There are plenty of poor black people who are willing to sacrifice their kids livelihood/health for a chance at millions.

NFL has enough money to pay them way higher than the MLB does, but they choose to screw the players over with a salary cap. Real market value of someone like Tom Brady would be about 70 million per year.
