That's kind of tricky. The way modern hockey is, good defence means getting the puck out of your zone quickly and keeping it in the opponent's zone. Teams that spend lots of time in their own zone without the puck are poor defensively, even if they don't get scored on. Relying primarily on scoring off the rush (the counterattack) is also generally held to be a sign of a poor offensive team that can't hold the puck in the opponent's zone. While teams can have success at that style, it is usually transient and rarely repeatable from year to year. For example, Calgary would be a good example last year but this year they completely blow. In 2013-14 Colorado would fit but this year and last year they were much less successful. In 2013 it was the >laffs turn to play like that and they imploded so hard over the next 2 years they had to completely restructure their team and start from the ground up.

Check out the Penguins. Their bandwagon isn't as big as usual since they've underachieved this year. They should still have a shot in the playoffs, though. Same op. I got to watching hockey a couple years ago because my company was based out of Chicago and we had a bunch of those chill motherfucker down here for awhile, they loved hockey. I've never watched it but would go out drinking with them for games. I started really enjoying it but didn't know the teams or who to go for. They insisted I had to go for Blackhawks, and I did, and do. But really it's best to back your closest team, I'm a Dallas Stars now but will always pull for Chicago too, they introduced me to this alien sport.

The Nashville Predators are always good defensively. Their goaltender is maybe the best in the world, they seem to always have another good young defenceman appear, and for a long time they had a defensive team philosophy.

Basically Minnesota is the unequivalent best state in the US for hockey. Obviously you're not Minnesotan and I doubt you'll ever come here but every town worth a shit has a hockey league for kids.
I live in a very isolated town in the deep northwest. The closest "city" to me is Fargo ND, no joke.
That being said we literally have a 15 million dollar hockey rink for our kids to play in. We have another rink right next to it which would put most others to shame. We have two outdoor rinks and in the winter people build their own rinks on the river.
Minnesotans breathe hockey.
If you're aware of American culture you probably have heard of Texas football. Minnesota hockey is honestly equivalent but hockey is a much more niche sport so it is understated.
As for the Wild they are a new team. We were cucked out of our old team, pretty fucking embarassingly after we didn't cough up cash to finance a millionaires arena. The same happened to our basketball team the Lakers but nobody really gives a fuck because Minnesota is a hockey state.
But we finally got a new team like 15 years ago.
The team is really good (on paper) and looks to be a playoff threat each year for the next 7 years at least.

The Coyotes have always been sort of a joke just based on their location (in the desert of Arizona) but they're nowhere near as bad as the Leafs. I honestly don't know much about them this season. They had the best sweaters in the 90's.

He is only one of 4 players to have received special permission to play in the CHL a year early. McDavid is so fast that even if he loses a step as he ages he will still be one of the fastest in the game.
