People post these "why does California have so many teams" threads without thinking about population. They just see that it's the state with the most teams, but the state borders are fairly arbitrary, case in point the huge difference in sizes between West and East coast states.
If you want to discuss whether California markets are over saturated based on population / ability to support a team, then that's different.
This (slightly outdated) analysis shows the Bay Area has "too many" (although there are only 4 teams in that statistical area, the 49ers are technically in the San Jose MSA), but the SoCal region has "too few".
