If we're counting the Copa as an equivalent to the Euros, then Rivaldo, Ronaldinho and Kaka too.

I'm pretty sure he was voted like 6th in the best player of the tournament award, and that is done before the final.

He was ascending, 98 was the start of it. Like I said, France 00 was the greatest ever French team. They deserve the most recognition.

Yeah they are similar, Iniesta just does it more consistently and effectively in the big games
>>
>>64295786

He would have a Balon D'Or if Messi and Ron weren't around.

If Messi and Ron played during Zidane's career then Zidane wouldn't have a gold ball.
>>
>>64296003
First good point you made. In a way though, Zidane's hotheadedness only contributes more to why people loved him.
>>
>>64295952

Still bullshit. Players and coaches shouldn't be allowed to vote, because judging from the voting results most of them don't pay any attention to football outside of their own teams/leagues. They also tend to vote for their m8s instead of being impartial.
>>
>>64295983
Zidane did not possess the same ability to dribble the ball in tight spaces with multiple defenders around him that Iniesta has.

I would also argue that while Zidane's passing was elite, Iniesta can thread the needle more accurately.

Zidane was stronger, and a better aerial and long distance shooting threat.

Zidane had great passing with both feet, shooting, set pieces.

Fuck off with that comment.
Xavi, excellent as he was, is such a meme.
Iniesta provided so much more X-factor.

Even if I grant you the Xavi attachment, the same logic can be applied even more so to Zidane and his colleagues.
>>
>>64295971
But its being pushed very hard. The only meaning it has had in the past years is to marker whether Ronaldofans or Messifans were right in saying their boy was better. Once Ronaldo stops getting nominated it will be """"evidence"""" that Messi is the greatest player of all time (not far-fetched in my opinion) and legitimize the trophy. It's going to be football's oscars. The future Henrys, Sneijders, Robbens, Riberys, Suarezs, Xavis, Iniestas are going to suffer a bit from it imo.

Iniesta was M.O.T.M and Xavi just did a cameo at the end

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_UEFA_Champions_League_Final
>>
>>64296073

This. Zidane played in some good teams, but none as dominant and cohesive as modern Barca.

Another thing to consider is there was more parity in Zidane's era. Seria A was stacked as fuck when he was at Juve, and Real fell apart after the 02/03 season, when they got rid of Hierro and Makelele and thought they could get by with guys like Pavon at CB and no DM in midfield.
>>
>>64295088
we don't care that much about the copa either, para ser sincero, the only thing we care about is the world cup and for messi to win something
>>
>>64296046
He was as good a dribbler as Iniesta but didn't have the body to penetrate as well as Iniesta can, that it is true. His long shooting and physical strength were superior, I agree. Zidane was not good in the air, however, despite his scoring headers in the WC final.

Can we aknowledge that every player he played with at Madrid - Ronaldo, Figo, Cannavarro, Beckham, Casillas - all pointed to him as the best player on their team? He was that great.
>>
Effectiveness and results are the most important factor no doubt, but surely Zidane gets credit for his style and elegance of play. Not many people have ever made the game look so beautiful.
>>
>>64296106
He's right though. I'd love to see Iniesta play out of his comfort zone. This guy literally have played under the same system everywhere and all his life. But he'll never have the balls to do a Schweinsteiger.
>>
>>64296154

True, though I find him kind of frustrating that a lot of his beautiful stuff didn't amount to much sometimes... It's easier to do pretty flicks around the opposition strikers than it is around their last defender

Part of being a good player is recognizing what you are good at and sticking to it.
He doesn't need to prove anything else.
And every halfway decent team has a system built around their players' strengths and weaknesses. Even Zidane's.

Schweinsteiger isn't a fair case. His decline was apparent before he left Bayern and thus we cannot judge this solely as being a result of his transfer.
>>
>>64296219
I'd argue that being a manlet actually helped Iniesta since it allows for better balance and mobility in tight spaces.
>>
>>64296213
>I'd love to see Zidane win a trophy without a goat dm to cover his ass.

Literally every great attacking player needed someone to cover their ass. Of course you're not gonna win shit when you have no stability in midfield, as Madrid found out post 2003 when they tried playing with Zidane and Guti in the same team with no Makelele.

Ronaldo played one (1) season at Barca. He's a Madrid legend bruh, he even proclaims himself as a Madridista. He said the only foreign player to bring joy to Brazilians was Zidane - the player he most enjoyed playing with and the best.

I think Messi is only superior to Zidane in two aspects: 1. Goal scoring (obviously as ones a forward and the other is a modfielder ) and 2. Dribbling. All the rest of the qualities Zidane has better.

Xavi and Iniesta literally grew up playing the same style of football, they graduated into the first team playing the same style, and even had that style adapted for them in the national team. There's a reason Spain switched to tiki taka in 2010 (Because that's the only way Xavi and Iniesta know how to play) Zidane however was dominant in three different France teams, he was the best player of the galacticos and he was skill- wise the best player at Juve. Imagine if he grew up playing the same style of football with the same people for his entire career. Im glad he wasn't like that though, because then he could be shut down like Spain and Barca have been shut down in the past.

>Winning the CL when your team literally = top form Ronaldinho, Deco, Eto'o, Messi, Xavi, Suarez, Neymar, Puyol, Piqué, Alves, Mascherano

>Winning the Euro and WC when your team = top form Torres, Villa, Xavi, Busquets, Xabi Alonso, Puyol, Silva, Ramos, Casillas

This doesn't proove anything ffs. Not saying Iniesta is shit, I actually think he's at least as good as Zidane was, and definitely the best midfielder of his generation.

But titles don't proove shit. Ballack never won the world cup, Götze did and even scored the winner. Guivarch won the world cup, Ribery didn't. Ibrahimovic never won the CL, poor form Torres did and humiliated Barcelona on his way. And the list goes on (Cruijff, Raul, Baggio...)

Zidane's glory outshines the fact that France 98 had the most formidable defense the french team ever had:
Lizarazu - Blanc - Desailly - Thuram
literally GOAT tier

Euro 2000 had the fastest attack the French NT ever had:
Henry- Trezeguet - Anelka; so that was fairly spectacular sometimes.

The french were fun to watch back then

>France 98 had the most formidable defense the french team ever had:
This is the most formidable defence any NT has ever had. IIRC, France never lost a game when they started that back four + Barthez
>>
Why does Zidane make people so butthurt anyways?

>>64304571
France - Italy from the 98 WC is one of my favorite matches ever. Possibly the two best NT defensive lines ever facing each other. And based Cannavaro shined above everyone

iirc all those teams were kinda shit when the players were at their prime.

Then in 2003, when most of them were old and worn out, it was 3/4 Italians in the CL semis.

Kinda like Chelsea in 2012. Nobody would claim it was better than, say, 2005, but sometimes experience counts for more than talent in knockout tournaments

This a million times. It's the one thing I love about Dinho the most, when he was in his prime not only did he win everything, it was amazing to watch him play
>>

the 98', 94' and 90' mascots are the GOATS.

02 is the worst one so far

Denmark still had to play a friendly against the Soviet ruins. They were still training and nobody had left the country yet.
