Let's talk about this Mickey Mouse trophy, /sp/. Do you think River stand a chance against Barcelona?

Consider the following:

>playing in Japan is always easier for the American team, as it's faster for them to adapt to the jet lag
>River is already in Japan, while Barça is playing this weekend in leliga and travelling there after that, which means way less time to train
>Barça will need to acclimatize in just a few days
>Nerman ded

I honestly think they have a big chance to win the trophy.
>>
You now remember Estudiantes vs Barcelona. Underrated match desu lads

You're way too optimistic, OP

River Plate has been in absolutely shit tier form since selling some of their players halfway into the year.

I'd consider River lucky if they don't get blown out

That's not only stupid, it's completely wrong. Brazil is on the exact opposite of Japan on the globe. Argentina, not much further.

Spain is MUCH closer.

Jet lag is always harder when you travel to the east than when to travel to the west.

To go from Brazil to Japan they cross the Pacific Ocean, not the whole world.
>>

Probably, he only stayed for this cup and the sudamericana
>>
>>64122477
Distance from Argentina to Japan is much more than Spain to Japan.
>>
>>64122477
This is why you can't get a job, Paco.

BA to Tokyo: 11.200km
Barcelona to Tokyo: 6.600 km

Literally half the distance.
>>
>>64122477
Also all flights from Argentina to Japan travel east. It would actually take longer and use more fuel to fly north and west to japan because of trade winds. The Pacific Ocean is larger than you're giving credit.
>>
>>64122634
>Also all flights from Argentina to Japan travel east.

AFAIK there ARE direct flights from Rio-SP to Tokyo, so I assume BA also has them.

The problem with that is that you're sitting on your ass on an airplane for 18hs without stops.
>>
>>64122660
All I can see are flights that go through europe, maybe it changes based on the seasons?

While here pretty much everybody would rather say

Continental super cup >>>>>> Club world cup

The first one is against a propper rival as a final test on preseason, the second one is a bunch of shit in the middle of proper competitions against teams that think that they're playing for something relevant
>>
>>64122968
Two reasons: European teams don't give a shit about this particular cup, most just consider it a amusing trinket. Also, European teams play the Club World Cup right in the middle of their league season and near the end of the Champions League group phase, which have more priority.

The problem with young talent in argentina right now has a lot of faces.
On one side, a lot of ex players and coaches are complaining about the excess of triumphalism and how that affects young kids. Their argument is that the kids end up with no technique, no sense of the game and focus too much on violent play and side stuff(like fighting with the ref). Of course that is an extrapolation, and not every academy is like that, but I think they have solid arguments, plus they are people who know what they are talking about, not only journalists.
On the other hand, consolidating long term projects in argie football is really hard. It is particularly harsh with teams: managers last a couple months, there is literally no patience to see how the team evolves, and most teams cannot maintain a base of players. They get bought, not only by europeans, but by mexicans, arabs, chinese, or yanks. Clubs over here cannot compete with foreign clubs in terms of salary or, in the case of europe, in terms of prestige. That means that it is really hard for them to grow as a team and in terms of collective play. Keep in mind almost every single player in the NT is playing in other leagues, managers just do not pick players from local football.
The other side of things is that, in europe, they are played mostly in the same position. Or, at least, there is a gigantic amount of argies playing either the 'false nine'-second striker role or the wing role. That mainly hurts our NT, a lot. Not only it is hard for the team to get together and practice, not only the biggest players literally overlap each other, but also we have no prebuild teambase like what Spain has with barcelona. It also hurts the players because, lets face it, not everyone is made for the same role.

That being said, we still have world talents. There are plenty clubs willing to bench local kids to make space for an argie. What really suffers from this is local football and the national team.
>>
>>64131379
>kids end up with no technique, no sense of the game and focus too much on violent play and side stuff(like fighting with the ref)

Well, I understand that kids want to be the next Messi, but once you're grown up and coaches saw your skills, I'm pretty sure many will fit better in different positions.

Isn't there any light? I understand that club myopia but here, for example, we have Espanyol.
Total shit first division team, sacking managers and no future more than just stay there, but has a really solid young developement program (really excelent considering that he has to compete against Barça)
Every year they have to sell some of their best players and just keep raising children and creating talent.
>>
>>64122063

River lost their best players. Had a tough time going through Chapecoense in Sudamerica and was eliminated by Huracan.
Not gonna happen.

In 2006 they got outplayed because Internacional maintained their best players (young Pato, Yarley, Índio, Fernandão) and Ronaldinho had already turned into Beckham -- you can see in that match why Guardiola got rid of him.
>>
>>64129364
It's weird and illogical, but it's true. When Liverpool won the CL but didn't win the title, it was "well done for them, but they're not the best team". Maybe ask a Liverpool fan what they think they'd prefer. English football thinking is very insular.

Just to add to what others have said in this thread about the club world cup, it's about the level of friendly. When Manchester United won the treble (CL, PL, FA cup), they later became the first English team to win the CWC. I don't remember much celebration about it. Sort of like a footnote to their real achievement.

They wanted to create an equivalent but they ended up creating just another Libertadores that is played over one half of the season while Libertadores is played during the other half. That's mainly cause national leagues here still have 2 tournaments per season and a final between the winner of those.
The reason for that is that most major teams lose their players on European summer cause of signings and then they sign players from smaller teams.
Having two continental tournaments per year assures them that they keep most of their players during each tournament, instead of having to sell half their team half way.
It's a retarded ass system from the 90s but the corrupt faggots at conmebol and at the FAs won't change it or look at alternatives.
