What a wonderful time that was... Brazil was winning everything left and right, while stunning the world. It's just such a shame Romario was injured before the 98 World Cup and Ronaldo got sick before the final. Brazil would of had their hexa in 2002.

>tfw ronaldo was never the same after that injury at Inter

imagine if he got the same protection messi got today

I remember Italy being stacked as fuck and disappointing every time. Fuck that

Christ even after that injury he was still able to get 8 goals in, in Korea/Japan. There's a universe out there where Ronaldo never got that injury, and Ronaldo never got sick before the 98 final and Romario was able to make it. The 98 world cup for me was a gap in what was an otherwise golden dynasty that lasted until the 2007 Copa America.

That wonderful time RRR
>>
i prefer 2014
>>
>>64100274
>muh protection
>muh oldschool physical football
fuck off, both of his injuries were non contact. He just had glass knees and bad luck. Nothing to do with any sort of "protection"

Rivaldo/Ronaldo was such a GOAT duo. In the 3 tournaments they played together, this is what they won between them:

2x Tournament wins, 1x runner-up
2x Player of the Tournament awards (Ronaldo 1, Rivaldo 1)
3x Golden Boots (Ronaldo 2, Rivaldo 1)
4x Team of the tournament (2 each at the WC, would be 6 if the Copa did the award back then)
30 goals (Ronaldo 17, Rivaldo 13)

If only Ronaldo stayed at Barca, they could have dominated club football too.
>>
>>64100081
Romario wasn't injured

>>64103731
Inter decided they needed to ruin football by throwing money at everyone
>>
>>64103731
>What made Ronaldo move out of Barca?
Inter made a world record offer for him and Barcelona were coming off 3 straight down years after the Cruyff dynasty. And they bought Rivaldo as Ronaldo's replacement, it's unlikely that he would have ended up at Barcelona had Ronaldo stayed
>>
>>64102469
What made Ronaldo move out of Barca? I know for certain he would of won his Champions League alongside Rivaldo...
>>
>>64103786

Apparently they wouldn't give him an improved contract, so Inter swooped in with the help of Nike
>>
>>64100320
You should have won 1990. Baresi, Maldini and Baggio not winning a WC is a joke. Also, the 2000 Euro.
>>
>>64103758

He probably would have. Kluivert was Ronaldo's replacement.
>>
>>64103757
Yes he was... I remember it being a huge deal back in Brazil, and even without him they were able to make it in to the final. But they still needed him, the 98 final would of been completely different if Romario was there. Since at least Ronaldo could of sat on the bench if he still had his seizure since there would be alot less pressure on him to play. http://www.nytimes.com/1998/06/03/sports/soccer-world-cup-brazil-an-injured-romario-is-dropped.html
>>
Did Italy go out to Maradona's Argentina in 1990?
>>
>>64103820
Rivaldo arrived immediately after Ronaldo left. Kluivert didn't come until the year after that

>>64103827
Yes, on penalties in the semis
>>
>>64103822
It was politics anon. They didn't want Romario fucking all the girls in Paris and setting a bad example for the kids.
>>
>>64103810
The 2000 finale was a thriller. Very few games since made me feel the way this one did.
>>
>>64103840
Did van Gaal choose Rivaldo or was that down to someone upstairs? Someone like your mum.

Sure was a wonderful time.
>>
>>64103939
Idk desu but Rivaldo and van Laal hated each other so it was most likely a club decision
>>
>>64103939
Van Gaal has said he liked Rivaldo until he won the Ballon d'Or and got cocky.
>>
>>64100081
>Brazil was winning everything left and right

but... they only won the 94 wc WHICH IS CONSIDERED BY ALMOST EVERYONE AS THE MOST BORING, INSIPID, UNINSPIRING AND forgettable WC in history.
>>
>>64104239

They won the 97 and 99 Copa's too
>>
>>64104239
>WHICH IS CONSIDERED BY ALMOST EVERYONE AS THE MOST BORING, INSIPID, UNINSPIRING AND forgettable WC in history.
It wasn't nearly as bad as 90 and 02

>>
>>64104355
God, Spain won in probably the laziest way possible. And that final was atrocious. Only the 1990 final could be worse.
>>
Glorious Bulgaria reaching the semi's and going out only because the ref was shit. Good times indeed
>>
>>64104355
The lowest scoring WC ever iirc.
>>
>>64105028
2nd after 1990.
>>
>>64104285
And the 97 Cofederations cup and some other meme cups as well.
>>
>>64104540
tbf it wasn't entirely spain's fault.Everyone just fucking tried playing them like Chelsea. Can't help but wonder what could have been if Cabanas hadn't been shot and he'd been able to play against them
>>
>>64102469
Why wasn't Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho called up to the 03 Copa America?
>>
>>64109979
You mean the 2004 Copa? As far as I recall, Ronaldo and Ronaldinho were given the summer off. Rivaldo was already out of the teams future plans by then and CAP called a bunch of literal whos. Obviously, those Whos became Adriano, Julio Caeser, Diego, Robinho, etc
