They don't sound like American names. Maybe if they were called Anderson or Johnson.

Before him, it was Kasparov.

>>63989239
It's just a daily show that covers all kind of random stuff. Had a small segment on chess on it and had him in the studio playing a quick chess game against a host. He had a 30 second clock, the host a 2 minute one.

can he reach 2900 during the tournament?

What a waste, what a GOAT

kek
You don't seem to know the first thing about the USA, m80.
>>
>>63989285
That's not sufficient compensation for an even game.
>>63989299
No.
>>63989308
They didn't have ratings in the 1800's, and Morphy was well below the modern elite level anyway.
>>
>>63989327
It was only for a bit of fun. Plus they were interviewing Carlson at the same time

Carlsen.

I find blindfold to be a much more fitting way to even things out and/or impress weak players.
>>63989360
It is merely a consequence of the general rise in level of play.
>>
>>63989308
>muh morphy
i want this meme to end
>>
>>63989375
They actually did ask about him playing blindfolded. Can't remember what he said
>>
>>63989327
>They didn't have ratings in the 1800's, and Morphy was well below the modern elite level anyway.

Also Fischer or Capablanca would be. What's your point Norway?
>>
>>63989384
Magnus pls go
>>
>>63989390
He often plays blindfold against a number of amateur or club-level players (usually ten), and normally wins all games.

I find it rather difficult to play one, but it's fun.
>>63989408
Fischer and Capablanca were both considerably stronger than Morphy.
>>
autismboard is not a sport

>>>/asp/

>>
>>63989427
Exactly, every generation is stronger than the previos one. That's what I was saying. Still not getting your point, I think you have something to say about Morphy
>>
>>63988994
Giri should probably something else than Dutch as well
>>
not a sport
>>>/tg/
>>
>>63989427

Do you think Morphy would be able to play on par with current elite if he had equal footing in training, focus and financial support modern chess players have? I think he'd surely be somewhere up there.
>>
>>63988726
ok
>>
>>63989433
Who is the highest ranked mexican?
>>
>>63989449
Mainly that Morphy's opponent were not at his level, but that was their fault, not Morphy's. Capablanca played his best chess in the era of Lasker and Alekhine, who were much stronger. Kramnik, for instance, has said that Lasker was the first player who held a level comparable to a 2700+ player of today, while Carlsen, studying the match between Capablanca and Alekhine, said that the games held a very high level, even by today's standards.
>>63989490
It's possible, but I wouldn't guarantee it. The number of extremely strong players is so high, it's much harder to stand out and even come close to the top.
>>
>>63989513
>Mainly that Morphy's opponent were not at his level

When will this meme end?
Every generation has his own level and every level has his own champion, obviously level raises with every generation, specially after Steinitz first and after computers later.

But Moprhy was not a player of todays world playing against monkeys. Morphy played chess at the same time and with the same conditions than his opponents did, and he outruled him. He simply understood the game in a trully natural way, without coaching, computers or shit.
Morphy's rivals were shit just because Morphy was good as fuck.
