They just make the pads bigger and bigger over time. I remember seeing a graphic about how the pad sizes of NHL keepers have grown by an absurd amount since the 1960's or something. They already cover up most of the goal.

The problem is that goalie is the most expensive position to play in hockey. A full set of gear costs 5k and kids have to play goalie for YEARS to get into the minors so they are not fat since they have nutritionists and shit

They said in the video that he is 500 lbs. They put another guy in a fat suit next to him to simulate a 1000 lb person and they only covered 80-90% of the net. I don't know what part of America you live in, but 500 lbs is pretty fucking heavy and literally 1/2 ton human is really fucking big.

I am 6' 410lbs and have played indoor men's lacrosse goalie as well as outdoor. I have quick hands and quick feet and have played goalie for 15 years. There are still plenty of angles open and corners to pick. If I could skate I would try ice hockey goalie but I suck at skating. But its mostly about baiting. I know what angles I am leaving available and anticipate where the shots will go and respond accordingly. But a sumo guy would be no better at it than a normal person without training, experience, and quick reflexes.
