So what happened in the Goffin-Edmund match?

>>
I don't want to take anything away from whoever wins here, but this is clearly one of the weakest Davis Cup years in a long time and it will further strengthen the ITF's resolve to reform the Davis Cup.

I don't feel much for the plan they've had where they play the entire tournament in two weeks or so at a central location; I like the current system of home and away ties throughout the year. What they could do imo is play the Davis Cup once every two years and then make it mandatory for the top 30 players. That would definitely increase the prestige of the tournament again.

You may also enjoy squash.

Set up a fun squash ladder at work. Recommend it. I used to play tennis but took a break and lost my serving ability. In squash you don't need the serve to be on point all the time and you can get exhausting rallies going easily.

To be fair, the jump up to even the lower levels of professional football is probably significantly better than the best player on your average Sunday league team. People really underestimate how hard it is to break into professional leagues.

My brother went to Leeds Met, their first XI plays in the FA Cup and as a predominantly sporting uni, their first XI are made up of ex-county level or pro-team academy/youth players who never made the cut. Their best striker eventually managed to get a pro contract with Bradford City. And these lads were training 4-5 times a week, playing twice a week while they were at uni.

It's nice to see Murray end his year on a high. After French Open loss where he played so fucking great and still lost the match I thought he was done for the year.

Good on the man.

It has one of the highest calories burned per hour for a sport, but it isn't an endurance sport, so 'fittest' is debatable. Cross-country skiing is up there too, but that's pretty much bullshit since only a moron would ski uphill. It takes a special kind of stupid.

Stuff like that never goes, m8.

Back strains from rowing, shoulder separations from rugby, knee problems from lifting weights incorrectly years ago. I still pay for all that shit now.

Belgium making the final with that squad just sums up how pointless this tournament has become.

Lol.

Perry won 8 Grand Slams, 4 Davis Cups and was ranked number 1 in the world. He is one of the all time greats.

Andy is nothing compared to him.

And everyone wore trouser. Not one player from back then would last five minutes against the modern player with a modern racket.
>>
>>63880173
There wasn't tennis at the olympics until the late 80s but I might be wrong about that.
>>
>>63880251
and there was only one rather than 4 players of similar quality
>>
>>63879777
lol
>>
>>63880267
It was around early on but took a massive break. I wasn't sure if Perry might have had a chance to win it in the 20s
>>
>>63880217
I think that's a thing a lot of people forget when comparing modern sports to back when. Modern sports have far better training, nutrition, recovery, injury management, etc. than the past. Drugs, too, if you're in the 'every pro dopes' camp.

It's the same with Pele in football. He spent most of his career in literally who Brazil and while he was good, I'd say somebody like Maradona, Messi or Ronaldo are better as individual players.

>>63879705
Not surprising since they have Tomorrowland there. It's like the only reason people go to Belgium any more.
>>
>/ENGLANDWINSLOL/

we're literally winning everything, step up rest of the world.
>>
>>63880217
In your logic guys like Borg, McEnroe, Lendl etc. are also less great than Andy because they played with less developed equipment.
>>
>THAT

Last time there was tennis at the Olympics (before the break) was in 1924.
Perry was only 15 at that time.

>>63880288
I wouldn't say that. The Open era of tennis made huge changes to the sport in terms of development.

It's different to a time when it would have been toffs pissing about.
