No reason to trade a superstar when you know you won't get equal value in return and the team really only needs one big free agent. Melo's been perfect in the triangle so far and thriving in our current defensive system. It's not like the team is looking like it needs to wait 5 years to be competitive.
Melo's really important to Porzingis' offensive development too. KP had zero moves to create for himself coming in, but he's rapidly absorbing Melo's little tricks in the post and seems to just be benefiting from the all-around mentorship. Melo is just one of those guys you want around when you're developing young talent, contrary to what a lot of the narratives say.
