Why are the 1985 Chicago Bears considered the GOAT team in NFL history?
>>63614627
cause Based Ditka
They are the GOAT defense
They allowed 10 points in the playoffs, shutting down the opponent in 2 games
>>63614627
The combined score of their playoff games + super bowl was 91-10.

They aren't. Chicago is just the biggest vity that cares so much about sports. So all of their sporting narratives are over hyped.
You can see it here on /sp/. The most forced, spammed memes of all time were TYBD and YFWDBWDSB. Neither are funny. They just stick around because there are so many Chicago fans. TYBD disappeared over night when he got traded.

Idk, the 1985 Burrs had the #1 offense in the NFL, the #1 defense in the NFL, and was riddled with Hall of Fame players.
It's definitely in the argument for best teams ever.
>>63615030
Greatest show on turf is the best meme team of all time and there is not even a debate.
>>63615030
>No '91 Redskins
>>63615250
there's certainly an argument. They are in the top tier or 2. Them not being able to be nearly as dominant in the surrounding years hurts their legacy a bit. Still they are up there.
>>63615250
Last time I checked, the 1972 Dolphins were still undefeated and the 85 Burrs weren't.
>>63614965
Patriots scored first in the Super Bowl and were poised for an upset when Lin Dawson went down with an injury which totally distrusted their offense.
The Patriots also had had the GOAT song that year:

Well, Buddy Ryan left and Walter retired. When the team is built off the genius of a defensive coach, and that coach leaves, and the best running back ever to play, and he retires, that's kind of the end of their dominance.
>>63615339
Last time I checked the 1985 Bears won more games
>>63615030
>2013 eagles
> no 18-1
shit list tbwfhwy
>>63615339
>played less games
>>63615404
>the best running back ever to play
Saying Walter Payton was the greatest RB ever like it's not even a debate is what I mean when I say that Chicago sports fans buy the hype too much.
>>63615391
The Patriots and Bears could have played a best of 7 and the Patriots would be lucky to avoid being BTFO in one game.
Let's not pretend that New England had a chance in '85. The best player on that team was a freaking offensive lineman.
>>63615339
'72 Dolphins are from the horse and buggy days
1929 Green Bay Packers 12-0-1
1923 Canton Bulldogs 11-0-1
1922 Canton Bulldogs 10-0-2
>>63615520
I remember Grogan saying he thought the Bears' 46 Defense should be made illegal after the game
>>63615391
>pats fans in 85'
but what about >muh sold out since 94
2013 seahawks would have literally destroyed Shitcago
>>63615506
It's Walter or Barry, depending on how much you value receiving ability.
>>63615726
Agreed. I hate to sound like a muh history autist, but Jim Brown should be in the top tier too. Fucker lead the league in rushing all but 1 year he played and was breaking 1,000 per season easily back when they played less games.
My point is that Payton is not clearly the best.
>>63615667
Can i get a link to that quote?
>>63615592
Don't try to bullshit your way out of this. And as a matter of fact, it was the Dolphins that beat the Bears on 85 as well.
>>63615807
Payton being compared to Brown shouldn't even be a discussion. Payton was great but Brown was a god from Olympus in comparison.
>>63615907
1972 - (2015 - 1971) = 1928
'72 Dolphins was so long ago they're closer to the 1929 Packers than we are to them. 3-yards-and-cloud-of-dust-tier teams don't count anymore.
>>63616356
Can't be helped that teams can't stack talent and know how to use them.
Miami had two backs that went over 1.000 yards rushing behind a line that had two future hall of famers. The future hall of fame QB was injured and was backed up by a solid and crafty veteran who when he needed to, threw deep to another future hall of fame WR.
The defense had but one future hall of famer but was solid and played very well as a unit. The Safeties were very good for that time and didn't make many stupid mistakes.
