The reason I mentioned kickboxing/Muay Thai is this is what compromises a fighters stand up skill set in MMA.
Lets say you have two guys fighting each other who agree not to try and kill each other with broken bottles and not to wrestle, thats Muay Thai. It's not a street fight but it is a REAL FIGHT, unlike fucking boxing which completely removes the lower half of your body from the equation.

Is anyone else just repulsed by MMA fights? I mean, after a decade of watching boxing matches I've been spoiled by the level of skill. Everytime a MMA fighter attempts a punch it's always so sloppy and slow. In the time it takes them to throw one of the honest-to-god useless punches, a pro boxer would have landed 3-5 strategically placed punches. Boxers use there lower body more effectively than anyone. Half the challenge of a fight is not getting hit. Kicking is the worst thing to do in a street fight. It's the most vulnerable strike you can make. It requires more wind-up and force than a punch. It's slower, and wastes more energy and it's more difficult to aim. It compromises your balance and opens up your hit box. Let's not even mentione how fucked you are if your opponent grabs your leg and how difficult it is to release it. Best thing to do in a fight is never to kick. Boxing js the most effective and smartest way to fight. More precision, more energy conservation and it frees your legs to be able to avoid and have control of the neutral. If you've ever been in a fight you'd know how stupid kicking really is irl.

Boxing fans have been trying to point this out for like 10 years lol, anyone can become a champion in MMA. In boxing you can train your entire life and still not even become a contender because the talent pool is so deep all over the world.
People just don't realize how strong a boxer with good technique punches. It's literally years of perfecting a single craft. There is a good reason why MMA fighters don't transition to boxing (but sometimes boxers go to MMA) -- the gap in technique and punching power is huge. No MMA fighter on the planet would want to take a solid punch from a Kovalev, let alone a Vitali Klitschko. It's just the way they sit on those shots and put their entire body into it. Look at Struve's x-ray after he got hit by Hunt.
