The best of the BDO get their annual opportunity to take on the top players in the PDC, as the Grand Slam gets underway in Wolverhampton. For the first time, this tournament is a PDC ranking event, so a good showing from a BDO player will give them a boost in the rankings should they decide to join the dark side via Q-School in the next 2 years. In another first, Wolfie has finally accepted an invitation to play with the big boys, and the bearded adulterer has already caused a stir by (quite correctly) labelling Peter Wright ‘a clown’. Snakeshite has responded that at least he’s playing in a bigger circus, and this tension promises to be far more entertaining than the Sky Sports-created “feud” between Wright & MVG. Also making his GSOD debut is Andy ‘The Viking’ Fordham, who has further endeared himself to right-thinking darts fans by going on record to say he doesn’t like Taylel. The 32 players are split into 8 groups, with the best-of-9-leg group games taking place across 6 sessions between now & Tuesday evening. Two players from each group will progress to the second round, where the tournament becomes a regular knockout format. Coverage from the Wolverhampton Civic begins at 13:00GMT on Sky Sports 2, with the evening session from 19:00GMT on the same channel.

And that D5 ends the day's action. Bewilderingly, Scotty Dog lost 5-2 to the Clown despite averaging 104 and a half in the end.
The BDO more than made up for their embarrassing performance this afternoon, Gino De Vos excluded from that as he pushed Thorn all the way to the last leg, with Wolfie's first PDC tournament victory in 14 years as he thrashed Ian White. Makes you wonder why he's never entered before... unless the fact this year's staging is a ranking event may put the fear of "OH GOD MARTIN'S GOING TO Q-SCHOOL IN JANUARY" into the BDO's heads.
Elsewhere for the BDO, Andy Fordham's return to the big time saw him defeated by Snackpot but put in a great performance that should be applauded. As for Mark Oosterhuis, there is absolutely nothing positive to say about him apart from "things can only get better".
