need help trying with my ex.

I texted her a few nights ago at 2 am when I was really drunk. I was delaying the inevitable by not texting her for like more than a year but finally I guess alcohol overcome my brain. now since the damage is done I might as well try something. We just chatted a bit about general stuff. now I need something to say like "I texted you actually because..." but I need some ideas for this.

I cant say "because I heard our song" or some shit like this because we didnt have a music or movie or something like that to share. any ideas?

I would not want to get back together in a relationship but I would like to hang out.

By telling me what he really is messaging me for. I have a feeling he still has feelings for me or maybe just wants to boost his ego reminisce a bit. But he's beating around the bush and annoying me. If he wasn't an ex it would be different I wouldn't mind but bc he is I worry about why he's trying to talk again. We were together and in love at one point so why not just be straight up with me?
