I'm latino, so I grew up around a lot of people who liked soccer and got into it through FIFA. The EPL is the only league on TV and it's where all the /sp/ shitposting is focused on, so it was a natural choice for me. Plus I work the night shift, so it's the only league I can watch regularly without coffee.
