Just fiction. Last I read was 'The Mysterious Stranger' by Twain, which was a really odd book if you ask me. Maybe start delving into a book from a harder, older author, that would definitely increase your focus for more contemporary works. Usually only one of these old ass books is enough. Personal I went with the russians on this. I like Dostoevsky. Greeks are an excellent alternative as well if your into philosophy and self improvement.

Which version did you pick? There are two versions. I believe the one I read was from 1916 and was available from Gutenberg. Apparently it has slight editions done by someone other than Twain, but more or less it is Twain. There is completely unadulterated version of his manuscripts, but I couldn't find that online so I went with the former. Book is very unfinished, but for that what is finished it is interesting, except for the ending which is some unexpected solipsistic shit.
