Honestly, lifting weights does very little for your confidence. At least, it did little for mine. If anything it made me MORE self conscious because I was constantly observing my body. Women didn't like me any better than they did before I was muscular. They barely seemed to notice or care. Hell, most of them will openly tell you that they think body builders are unattractive or gross. Now I just do cardio stuff like kayaking, hiking, and swimming. I doubt I'll ever body build again. There`s no such thing as "fixing each other" relationship. You have to fix yourself, on your own, with eventual help of someone impartial. The good news is that when you achieve peace that way, it will be very hard for anyone to take that peace from you, because it will be yours and yours only, not dependent on anyone or anything.
Look for someone stable, laid back and with some distance. It`s good to have a person like that around, sometimes all it takes is their presence to put things in perspective. Crazy is always bad for another crazy.
