Have we got any STEM /soc/ialists? Theres always a lack of people interested in STEM fields in other threads, perhaps we should start our own?

Physics/computer science

Upper division

Found I don't enjoy upper division physics, trying to figure out whether to go engineering or purely software. Have been planning some programming and electronics projects but havent gotten started on any of it yet. Something of a new years resolution, I guess.

Music and Vidya. I like most genres. Lately been binging on X-Files.

Various health issues put you at risk. Essentially any disease of the kidney itself, vascular disorders and age >75

These are at least what I'm looking at since it relates to In-Hospital Acute Kidney Injury which tends to be pre-renal (hypovolaemia as a cause etc) so we can actually do shit about it like fluid-load.

Eh. They come easy when others like me are involved. "Normal" people start talking with their sports and their celebrities and I have no idea what to do so I just blend and stay quiet. Exactly, pop culture has a massive hard-on for geekiness but it's very watered down so it can appeal to the lowest common denominator of people, and actually nerdy topics just don't water down very well, there's usually a lot of complexity that is lost

I try to read some philosophy now and then. I want to read more but I have a bad habit of picking up a bunch of books and only reading like the first chapter in them all. I guess right now I'm focusing on Dewey (though I wouldn't call myself a pragmatist) and Sartre (though I definitely wouldn't call myself an existentialist). I'm also a /mu/tant so I spend way too much time listening to bad music. New Bermuda AOTY btw.

Linear Alg varies widely from institution to institution.

At some schools, linear algebra is a sophomore level course with minimal proof/analysis and is very "In this diagram is our matrix, find some property of it".

Other schools, it's considered the 2nd or 3rd hardest math class to take (outside the Foundations of Algebra / Analysis course line), really rigorous, and almost everything is essentially "Prove that if Matrix A is _____ then it's ___".

The inconsistency between schools is so high that almost all grad programs have a linear algebra as one of the first courses you take so that you can quickly get on the faculty's level of doing stuff.
