In my mind, I'm definitely a 3-4, just in case something thinks I'm bitter that I don't get the ratings I feel i deserve. I get rated above that usually, but it's just a matter of /soc/ being polite and nice.
The effect it has on women here is that much more potent. Women have the upper hand, have it easier, in virtually every way in modern society.

OKCupid did a study based on their user statistics, I don't remember the exact wording but basically women rated men either a 1 or a 5, there was no in between.

I don't know what's going on exactly but I do know ratings here are based off nothing. I can post two different pictures of my self and be rated a 4 in one and a 9 in the other. I do think men rate women higher on average than women rate men. Then again, I'm pretty sure women rate other women lower as well, and men rate other men higher too.

Yeah I've noticed that women seem to be more fickle than when it comes to finding someone physically attractive. I believe this has mainly to do with the fact that finding someone attractive is a combination of memory and real time assessment of beauty. What I mean by that is that I believe women utilize memory of past experiences to a greater extent than men do when evaluating someone's looks, although they are typically unaware as this memory based attraction is mostly subconscious. Men, on the other hand, tend to evaluate attractiveness more in real time, basing their opinions more on geometry/features/curves etc. which is probably a contributing factor to the idea that men "objectify" women.

I think you would all do well to realize that the majority of posters here are male. I've noticed that women often rate me highly, men...not so much. As a straight male I often rate men highly. I try to view faces as works of art/sculpture, which negates my sexual preference when rating. Not everyone is capable of separating the concept of objective attractiveness from sexual attraction. Unfortunately it does appear that men gave greater difficulty doing this than women, likely due to homophobic social stigma
