Not really, frankly I have no idea why that guy told me that a 5'7" girl cannot be considered tall. Speaking of my country (Italy), I think the average height for girls here is around 5'3", even though there are plenty of 5'7"/5'8" girls, whereas 5'9"> girls are much rarer. This said, the average height can vary from country to country: in the Netherlands, for instance, there are many tall girls. I met three 17-years-old dutch girls some years ago and the shortest one was 5'9"; being 5'7" I felt like I was in paradise.

I think that's just one of those manufactured things for women to hate. It doesn't make sense to dislike it to me, it's something very subtle and hardly ever noticed in the first place.
