Human civilization is currently as advanced as it has ever been, and rapidly improving. We can converse with each other near-instantaneously across the world. We can play all sorts of games with each other online, with spectacular, ever-improving graphics and complexity and entertainment value. We can listen to nearly any song another human has dreamed up without even having to leave the room. These are actually some of the more modest achievements of humanity so far. Even more impressive things have been achieved - Things that those who came before us did not even conceive as being possible. My examples are merely some of the most recent.
Yet everywhere, I see so much toxicity. I see mental illnesses, sources of tremendous pain and hardship for those that suffer from them and their families, used as cheap insults in minor disagreements over less-than-trivial matters. The same occurs with gender and sexual identities, things that people have fought hard for acceptance and awareness for and that innocent people continue to be tortured and murdered for today. I see people wishing one another to commit suicide, to die in any number of ways, insults over insults. Poisonous, horrendous, primitive behavior that is entirely unnecessary and - ironic or not - does more harm than any of us could ever know. This behavior is pervasive. It is found everywhere, in every language, on every forum, in every online text field.
What hope is there for any of us if, even with all our privileges, we won't be kind to each other?

Why do you assume that, if people have "enough", they become benevolent? Many people think this, but I've never heard of an explanation for it. Perhaps it is something wired into our subconscious, the belief that rudeness comes from want.
I think transitional periods are often fraught with turbulence and strife. We should probably just keep being nice and hope it all turns out for the best.

I don't assume that people become nice just because they have "enough," but I do think that when someone has "enough," there should be no need for rudeness. That more needs and wants are being fulfilled than ever before and yet we still cause so much pain for one another seems paradoxical, and makes a damning case for human nature.

Actually, I realize I did not really answer your question. It is a good one. I think you could say that the belief that rudeness comes from want is supported by things like poverty-stricken areas having higher crime rates.
Precious leisure time afforded to us by the modern age being used by to call people autistic online is just plain wasteful. You don't have to be rude, you seemingly should have no pressures acting on you to cause you to be rude, yet you choose to be anyway. Why?
