can anyone help?
Two factory plants are making TV panels. Yesterday, Plant A produced 3 times as many panels as Plant B. Four percent of the panels from Plant A and 5% of the panels from Plant B were defective. How many panels did Plant B produce, if the two plants together produced 1870 defective panels?
please
x is the number of panels produced by A.
y is the number of panels produced by B.
3x = y
.04x + .05y = 1870
Substitute and solve.
Hint: the first one is already conveniently solved for y.

Correction: the first equation is x=3y and is solved for x
You cant actually answer this question its unknown actually because. It ask you How many panels did plant B produce Not How many Defective panels plant B Produced your math teacher should learn to write his questions properly

The problem is perfectly solvable.
I just did it.
You're given two equations and two variables. Plenty to figure out how many panels both plants created.
I don't just want the answer spelled out for me. but could someone tell me if i'm correct?
I got 28050 panels for plant b
please
>>14036875
No.
Remember that
>>14036866
got the first equation backwards.
>>14036879
so is it
.04(3*.05)+.05y=1870
you there?
>>14036884
Close.
You simply substitute x in that equation for everything on the other side of the = in the first equation, so:
.04(3*y) + .05y = 1870
Now that you only have y in this equation, you can solve it.
>>14036891
thank you!
>>14036893
Now what number do you come up with?
4%A + 5%B = 1870
A = 3B
if u sub it back u have:
4%*(3B) + 5% B = 12%B + 5%B = 17%B
17%B = 1870
then
B = 11000
>>14036891
11000?
>>14036901
Correct.
