Requesting a /film/ board. It's long overdue. /tv/ has descended to such lows that a new board is needed. Star Wars and capeshit spam is drowning any discussion that doesn't appeal to fanboy sensibilities. Not only is discussion about anything worthwhile no longer encouraged, it is purposefully derailed. The first purpose of the board now is to house capeshit company wars. /tv/ has always had a degree of shitposting, but there's even a noticeable difference between the board's quality now and how it was 18 months ago. With no end to capeshit in sight, GoT returning and with a Star Wars movie being released every year now, /film/ is only fair.

/tv/ could continue to house
>capeshit
>star wars
>TV
>memes
>general shitposting
>youtube personalities
>bait articles
>waifu threads

/film/ for the discussion of movies
>>
>>495838
Starwars is a movie though, it would have to be discussed on /film/
>>
>>495838
Just make a Starwars board, a Cape board, and maybe a /tvg/.
>>
>>495860
No. The only movies not allowed to be discussed on /film/ would be Star Wars and capeshit. You could have a sticky to outline this.

When the tidal wave of Star Wars and capeshit isn't allowing other discussion to build any traction then the two need to be separated.
>>
>>495867
>Only movies I like can be discussed on /film/
And this is why there will never be a /film/.

Also, /GoT/ is coming in about 2 weeks, so enjoy this time you have left while you can.
>>

>>495838
/tv/ seriously needs a split now, the mods are not able to do shit
>>
>>495838
why does there have to be two boards for movies
>>
>>496085
Because general film discussion cannot co-exist with the spamming of Star Wars and especially capeshit.

If you've been on /tv/ for even a couple years you'll have noticed a big shift in quality.

>>
>>498274
There's plenty of reason... there's certainly enough traffic to merit it, and splitting the boards might let actual discussion of medium-to-small shows/movies take place as the shitposting crowd gets divided.

If /co/ can be its own board, you can split /tv/.
>>
>>498274
>>498296
Idea: Instead of /film/, call it /movie/ so people can't do any pretentious posturing. They all mean the same thing anyway.
>>
>>499464
I get what you're saying and I agree somewhat, but it's worth noting that pretentiousness has kept some of the other boards from turning to shit like /tv/.

My problem with /tv/ nowadays has little to do with the quality of content or shitposting or memes or anything of that nature.
But rather the prevalence of capeshit content basically drowns, sometimes in a matter of minutes, discussions related to any other genres of film or any other theme which is not specifically related to blockbuster superhero movies.

For the past 15 months, when basically a new capeshit movie comes out every 1-2 month, the board is filled with content relating to a very specific and rather small genre - yet no doubt one of the most popular in the work these days.

Looking at the timetable for the upcoming releases from the two biggest capeshit producers, Marvel and DC, this issue is just going to get worse as time goes by and something needs to be done about this by the management of this site.

hello /tv/
>>
/tv/ should be split into three boards:

>/tv/ - Television & Film

>/co/ - Comics

>/pol/ - Politics

If /tv/ was split into those three and each of them were competently moderated to ensure their subject matter stays on the right board there would be no problem.
>>
>>495838
We need a /cel/ board more than anything desu.
>>
>>505003
>/co/ - comics

I can see so many ways this could wrong. The retarded mods would probably enforce segregation between the comics and cartoon boards. Now this wouldn't be so bad if comics had enough content to keep a board moving a relatively brisk pace, but since they don't, the live action capeshit will drown out all discussion of actual comics.
>>
>>505003

no. one big board for each category is clearly not enough. see for example the recent successful split of /lit/ and /his/. additionally see how many different boards are dedicated to anime and anime porn.

the superheros movies are so huge and attract such a huge crowd, why not let them have a board of their own?
>>
guy stop asking for a /cape/ board

theres no way it's ever going to happen
just because there are a lot of starcraft threads on /v/ doesn't mean they made a starcraft board
just because there are a lot of hiphop thread son /mu/ doesn't mean they made a hiphop board

you guys have to be realistic with your requests otherwise the mods will continue to ignore us

even though i'd personally like a /cel/ or /cape/ board, theres 0% chance of that ever happening (we've been asking for like 7 years now)

the only thing i truly see getting done is splitting into /film/ and /tv/ board. that would make sense because it would reduce traffic, keep /tv/ generals on /tv/ taht could be better monitored (not 1000 GOT threads every sunday) and have cape, SW and film discussions more easiloy handeld on just a /film/ board
>>
>>505066
Capeshit and Star Wars can stay on /tv/. They're a huge part of the cancer.

Moving capeshit and Star Wars to /film/ defeats the purpose.

You don't have to call it /film/ if you want to avoid confusion and questions like "why can't I discuss capeshit here, it's a film".
>>
>>505084
but you can't simply ask for /board of things i like/ and /board of shit i dont like/, because thats different for everybody.

my point was that you have to make realistic requests. and i think that splitting it up into film and tv would reduce traffic and make them both easier to moderate, something that admin can appreciate
>>
Just start by banning threads about youtubers and little girls you idiots.
>>
>>499464
SW and capeshit are flicks
>>
>>505066

the starcraft analogy is incorrect because capeshit is more than a specific movie or even franchise of movies.

the hiphop analogy could be correct if somehow it became the biggest and most popular music genre in the world and would be occupy 30%-40% of all threads in /mu/. circlejerking around kanye or other major artist is just the way the boards are.

But once a capeshit movie is released, something like we saw with the recent BvS, or the upcoming Civil-War, I haven't done the statistics but I doubt its less than 80-90% of all threads. Not to mention people who bring up discussions of other movies related to it in the same franchise.
>>
Is it not interesting that we just had yet another thread on /tv/ that got to like 100 posts about how shit /tv/ is because there's no board split before the mods saw it and deleted it?
>>
>>495838
I prefer /cin/ - Cinema. Sounds more like actual discussion and less like dank memeing grounds.

Also /co/ here; we're the ones who have to put up with insufferable capeshit. If that's on both boards than it truly is fucking cancer.
>>
>>505089

Its way beyond that however. The problem isn't capeshit itself or the memes or shitposting that spouts from it, but the fact that it virtually clogs /tv/ and forces all users to view/discuss capeshit related shit.
>>
>>505107
the analogies are obviously weak but i think my point was made. just because something is popular and you don't like it doesn't mean we make a containment board for it. my advice is to use word filters and delete stuff from your catalog

>>505112
>>505112
>but the fact that it virtually clogs /tv/ and forces all users to view/discuss capeshit related shit.
can you elaborate on this a bit? i don't really follow
>>
What I do is I just hide all the threads I don't like. All capeshit, star wars, GoT, meme threads, celeb threads, shit threads. I basically hide 95% of all threads and I'm left with a few good threads.

That does the trick for me.

I'm not saying we don't need a board split. I'm just sharing my coping technique.

>captcha: pop corn
>>
>>505116

I think that ive explained it here quite clearly >>504936

but basically, discussions on capeshit takeover the board, brings with it tons of people who actively discuss capeshit,
and that pushes many other discussions and threads which are not related to capeshit almost immediately to the bottom of the board and quite quickly to the archive.

again, this has nothing to do with whether one likes or dislikes capeshit and related discussions.
>>
>>505143

But the time that it requires to make a quality post in a quality thread is more than enough to get pushed to the bottom and deleted by hundreds of capeshit and SW threads.
>>
>>505163
maybe.
But that only affects a very few people. Who really cares about quality of post or thread anymore?
I try to make good threads when I do. I try to make good posts when I do. Sometimes I meme or shitpost. Most of the time I just give my opinion.

If I were you, I would start lurking a slower board like /lit/. You'll have plenty of time to think about what you're gonna write there.
>>
>>505170
not the anon you're replying to but....

i see where you're coming from, /tv/ IS essentially a lost cause. but i think the point of this thread is to discuss possible ways to make it better.

so although you're right that trying to have a real discussion about movies is unrealistic on current /tv/, we are tryign to think of ways to change /tv/ in order to achieve something more akin to /lit/ in terms of board speed and post quality.
>>
>>505177
>we are tryign to think of ways to change /tv/ in order to achieve something more akin to /lit/ in terms of board speed and post quality.

>>

>>505177

>ways to change /tv/ in order to achieve something more akin to /lit/ in terms of board speed and post quality.

I also agree with this 100%. I think this is exactly what /film/ could be. Everybody wins. Literally the only people opposed would be shit posters who enjoy derailing actual discussion threads on /tv/.
>>
mods get your heads out of your ass and do this already.
>>
eat shit
>>
>>506979
What's the problem mate? You don't want more room to discuss your capeshit?
>>
it won't be forbidden to post crappy movies, but it will be ignored and the discussion will focus on worthwhile movies.
also, the emphasis is gonna be on quality discussion, so I see no problem to discuss a good blockbuster like fury road in a serious way.
>>
>>495838
Splitting up the /tv/ community after all this time? This is actually really sad to me.

It's also ridiculous that we're getting a film board before a /cel/ - Celebrity Gossip board. That would easily clean up not only /tv/, but /hr/ and /s/ as well.

What community are you talking about? Because the /tv/ one has been split for a very long time now and the only thing left is cancer from /sp/ and /v/
>>
I literally don't watch tv shows. Please give us >>>/film/
>>
I don't care either way. A new board means it will be slower. They will still spam shit, but the actual discussion won't be bumped out of the catalog so fast. The epic meming underage faggots can fuck off. /film/ is here to bring discussion to an acceptable level again.
>>
>>507074
There's no /tv/ community. Most of the current userbase overrun it on the last two years because moderation went full retard and Bane got too popular for it's own good. They aren't /tv/, they are reddit, /pol/, /v/, /sp/ and redditfags fishing for epic collages for them upvotes.

Just check the catalog and posting patterns, same fucking memes, same shit e-celeb twitter reactions, same review and company war shit. They only discuss flavor of the month and lowest denominator shit. Because their main interest isn't television or films. It's a meme machine, a fungus colony. It's about time someone put it out of it's misery.

Superhero movies are movies.

What do you mean by talk about it? I mean sure, you can bring it up if it's relevant to the subject, but the point is that you create movie threads on /film/ and TV show threads on /tv/. It should not be difficult to understand.

OP doesn't get it and thinks that Star Wars and superhero movies wouldn't be allowed on /film/. They will be. He wants to "escape" it, but that's not what the board is being made for. It's being made to split TV and movies.

Yeah that helped /tv/ out a lot. Surely they'd get tired of spamming Bane soon, and that would be the end of that right?

On the contrary, it seems they assume having a board expressly about movies actually legitimizes their shitposts and forced meme'ing. There is no reason to believe it wouldn't actually be far worse than /tv/, except for the other question of "what happens to /tv/ when most of its discussion topics are gone", the answer to which I think would be "almost the entire catalog will be spam besides a few generals".
