Regarding the apearance of anonymity, 4chan staff don't really care about those pesky principles that drew anons here in the first place.
Given IDs and flags, there really isn't much of a reason to have a politics board. On the other hand, there's even less reason to have IDs and flags in the first place.
As for "why", the reason is that 4chan has devolved into a hyper-paranoid, heavily moderated forum that either doesn't trust its users.
It's just a sign of the times. Nothing is sacred anymore, not even the pretense of pseudo-anonymity. Welcome to 4chan circa peak cynicism.
