Yeah, it's a pretty good movie. Hard to see the connection to pol at first, given that the main guy is a communist and the film is sympathetic to him. However, the film doesn't really endorse communism as much as it criticizes the witch hunting attitudes of the people behind the red scare and Hollywood blacklists.
Trumbo is a man going his own way, with the help of his family. Society tells him what he can't do, and he goes on to do what he wants. There are costs, and struggles, but victories too.
It's a worthwhile film, though not ground breaking. I give it 4/5.
