The problem is that human brain adapts to mother language and we in fact use those "foreign" phonemes but for emotional expresion. For example, when I doubt I use to say "dosh" instead of "dos". Example:
- How many burritos would be enough, tacoanon?
- Yo estoy not sure... hmm dosh, maybe?
This makes our brain to process both phonemes as the same. Have you ever asked someone what they have just said but before they can repeat you what you say you then understood what they say. There is some bullshit in our brain that makes it possible but that screw Spanish people to learn to tell apart phonemes we are used to recognize as the same. Worst thing are vowels.
