I was a freshman in high school. I was in shop class when our teacher received a phone call notifying him of what happened. He turned on the television and we watched the second plane hit the tower live. I was too young, and too stupid to realize the gravity of the event. I remember laughing and joking about it. Also remember being disgusted by the show of patriotism, where everyone had a flag on their lawn immediately after the attack.

Dumb edgy teenager.

It wasn't as interesting as you seem to think it would have been. I was 14 and my modem at home was..28.8 I think. You could barely get a photo up on the screen, it took 3-4 minutes and then you had to unzip it.
There were a few stories on AOL or Prodigy or whatever, but no one had a fucking camera on every phone like today.

you are imagining it as it would be with a happening today, with info coming from twatter, vids up right away on jewtube on liveleak before were shuddown...none of those existed.

May not believe, but eve the habbening on the 14 was a lot more visceral and interesting, racing to get pictures before they were removed.
I was living in NYC ay time, so I saw it firsthand. tried to go down and get pictures, and a fucking national guard idiot tried to arrest me (later found our Guliani had declared entire area a crime scene, and under NYS law it's illegal to pics of crime scenes).
strong smell of dead bodies in air, dust, another fireman funeral every day...but you'd only experience this if you were there, the net didn't have shit but for discussion minus any video or pics.

If you were here on the 14th, you were a lot more "involved" than would have been on 9/11 simply because there was no material to post, and no one had the speed to get even if there was.
Anything there was, it was on TV.
>>
16. I think it must have been 3 or 4 in the afternoon. The principal went from classroom, to classroom to notify everybody. Even at that young age, we realized the world was never going te be the same again. Even in shitty old cuckhole Belgium. I passed US customs a couple of times some years later. They were still ridiculously thorough. I had some admiration for how the US handled everything as a government and as a society. Freedom fries and all that notwithstanding.

13.

I think it was around 4PM and it was a warm day of September. I distinctly remember playing Bomberman 64 and my dad calling me down to watch what was going on TV. Nearly all the channels were switched to breaking news and you saw the first tower up in flames then about half an hour later, boom second tower hit. That's when it really terrified everyone.

I also remember us sitting for dinner at the time the invasion of Afghanistan began, it was the first time you really saw war happening live on TV.

11. I lived in a good part of NY suburbs where we had plenty of people commuting to grand central. The school went into lockdown and sent us to rooms and wouldn't explain what was happening until parents picked kids with people who had parents in NYC up (real shitshow). Eventually the school got buses and on there we heard that a plane hit the WTC but didn't believe it.

Eventually we got home and my parents were there with a family friend and that's when we found out what actually happened.

The month that followed was absolutely surreal.
>>
>>81436897

I was there in when the buildings came down. The smell of smoke and twisted steel invaded my lungs. People were confused and crying, their tears leaving a trail on their dirty faces. I lost track of time and place as i wandered through the wreckage. I walked through blood and bones in the streets of manhattan trying to find my brother.

He was in northern canada.

sorry, this was meant as a reply to OP, not that post specifically

being denied spectating the event (seeing it unfold) by my school, I had to catch up with news and newspapers over the following days. they tried to explain it. there were just tons of blood drives, events paying tribute to those lost, fundraisers, etc... news was nonstop. my parents bought iodine tablets in case terrorists attacked the nearby nuclear plant (Entergy's Indian Point, less than a 10 mile radius from our home) and made emergency plans to go o upstate NY or canada if the worst happened in NYC again.

terror concerns and the war on terror, then the anthrax scare. we had an entrepreneurship thing going on in class and we were making bean bags. we wanted to use flour in them but we were told if one burst "it might be mistaken for anthrax".

the level of paranoia and fear that existed over the next few months, especially in new york, was insane.

I comped every single one of them for the proceeding weeks (three, exactly) so they would not be rushed/stressed during the crazy downtime with flights.

The next day at school, none of the teachers wanted to discuss the attacks. This was probably due to the fact that a lot of Pim Fortuyn fans (this was during the height of Fortuyn's popularity) were anxious to talk about the muslim element.
