After Sandy Hook, people were reacting on a liberal board where I was lurking. I myself have always been pro-second amendment, even as a liberal. The last straw for me was when my mother and father had a divorce. I was 15, my mother decided my father wasn't enough for her and fucked guys when he was out at his job. On /k/ I learned about the history of the US and the constitution, specifically the 2nd amendment. I also learned that all the anti-gun rhetoric is made up bullshit and that there is an agenda behind it, and that the media is in on it. I lost all remaining trust and respect for government and mainstream media.
That led me to libertarianism and it stuck, because for me it just seems to be the most logical and reasonable system.
I'm really an ancap tho. My ultimate political fantasy is to abolish the idea of nation states, and instead have competing 'nation-businesses' that you can subscribe and unsubscribe to. That way people could actually choose what kind of governance they want and sign an actual social contract.
All the leftist could go to nanny states and pay a lot into the system, right wingers could have very strict immigration rules and low 'taxes'.
There would be no need for endless political bickering of our days, since everyone could just choose exactly the system they want.

At 2005 my country we had a referendum "should people be banned from buying and selling guns?" and I voted yes.
This was my opinion until 2012 and changed my mind in one week after seeing a text on internet.

I never was liberal, at least after i past puberty i was a rightwing conservative. This view just modified a little bit over the past decades, but never changed. Immigration policy, P.C. and left hypocrisy and selfrighteousness drew me further to the right and decreased my tolerance for liberals to a hardly existent minimum.

It wasn't caused by anything in particular, but I got really pissed off after the Martin Place Siege when the media coverage was more about the potential backlash against Muslims(which turned out to be nothing) than about the actual victims of that day.
I'm still kind of left-wing, I believe in government aid for the disabled, trade unions, bolstering the working class and equality of opportunity.
I'm just against handouts for voluntary fuck-ups, exploitation of workers(by bosses and unions) and equality of outcomes.
I was a neocon cuck through around 2010. I just got sick of reading articles from losers who were more interested in distancing themselves from the far-right than actually attacking the left, so I moved on to more radical sites and found that I agreed with them more than mainstream conservative BS. No event in particular caused a shift, but the zimzam crucifixion drained what hope I might have had left that the culture war will ever end.

From there I was extremely neutral on most things with no real commitment to any politics as I saw how completely out of his depth, TJ was and resolved that I'd try and re-enter the scene from a different perspective.
Can't remember it well, but I think the turning point was around a year or two ago when I started my forays into Stephen Molyneux. Ironically enough, I was introduced to him by Thunderfoot.
Through him I was inspired to look more into American history and clear up all the bullshit liberal history I'd been indoctrinated with and found a much more inspiring philosophy of freedom and liberty, so much more universally pervasive into the morality of other philosophies.
I'm certainly not an Ancap volunterist, but I have to say the logic and philosophy is very seductive, but just like my apprehensions about gun control during my TJ days, I feel like the pragmatic argument is what's holding me back from accepting the moral one.

Moving to the South for grad school. I come from a small town in the midwest and while it's not fucking socialists or anything, they do tend to lean more to the left, I think mostly because we're so insulated from what's going on in a lot of other parts of the country.
Being in a very different region with very different political and social values was a very eye opening experience, and while I certainly haven't done a 180 on everything I believed before, the experience has taught me how invaluable it is to hear out both sides of every argument and analyze them both critically.

Martial law was declared and hundreds, if not more than a thousand, innocent people were gunned down by their own government. This is where the Communist Party put their foot down and showed how far they were willing to go to stay in power. Since then there's never been anything like it. Even today the government suppresses it, turns away from what happened.

There was almost no new media covering the event (the man who shot the photo was hiding in a hotel), he didn't do it for fame. He didn't even know anyone was watching. He did it because it was what he felt was right and he didn't care about the consequences.

I naiively viewed the Spring's successes as victories for democracy, but it wasn't until Morsi's election that I realized what democracy actually means in that backwards shithole of a region - that these people - the MAJORITY of people in the region - actually despise modernity and WANT an authoritarian theocracy to rule their lives. I also realized for the first time that Saudi Arabia was just as brutal, if not moreso, of a sharia state as Iran and Gaza. I realized that our liberation of Iraq ultimately led to it becoming a Sharia state as well, and that Libya and possibly Syria were on very similar paths. By supporting the western virtue of democracy in the Middle-East, we have effectively helped undermine every other Western liberal virtue that had taken hold anywhere in the region.

I started to read a lot about crime statistics and the like so that I could properly mount an argument in favor of gun rights, and I was shocked to find out that the OVERWHELMING majority of gun violence is gang crime centralized in just a few major cities--that happen to be full of niggers. And indeed, most gun crime is nigger-on-nigger.
Beyond this, I really just went down the rabbit hole and started to see how much they (and other "low-performing" minorities) bring us down in just about every regard, and the reason why seems to go a lot deeper than the typical leftist platitude of "oh they just have a bad culture!" or "it's because they're poor and we mistreat them!"Our education scores compared to the rest of the world are artificially deflated as a result of spics and niggers. Our rate of violent crime is artificially inflated. Our obesity and STD rates are artificially inflated. Our poverty rates are artificially inflated. And so on and so forth. All because of these subhumans, who have the nerve to ask for more even though we already give them far more than we give everyone else. Babby Tray Tray was also what made me extremely distrustful of the media, and my general apathy for everything has just grown and grown as I've continued to learn more.
Back in 2008 when Obama was still a candidate.I was in High school, and at age 17 I wasn't red pilled; I very honest. We had to write a paper in class and I went on this huge rant about how people are only voting for him because of his skin tone not his policies. Then I said something like "this is a white country, there shouldn't be a black president because people will vote for him because for the novelty" I was suspended for that. I often called out bullshit but didn't take the redpill until 2014.
