>>

No, just no. If you graduated from anything you shouldn't be thinking about the military. Look into trades if you want to do physical shit and work with your hands. The thing is, the military will try to tell they'll give you all kinds of skills, but it won't. Don't be another person in uniform regretting their decision. It sucks

I graduated from high school in 2012. I've spent the past 4 years as a living yo-yo doing odd jobs. Never committed to the whole get buried in loans college route (only received 10 grand scholarship for a liberal art school....psshh). Moved across the country to restart life with family in California from New Hampshire (the weather is nice, but the people are mostly dirty mexicans or white collar status-quo shills who've never made anything with their own hands but paperwork). No relationships or friends really. My dog has cancer. Been unemployed for months now. Camped in the woods alone last night to get my head around some shit. Honestly the big thing stopping me from joining the Marines or Army is the possibility of Trump getting elected. I don't care for Clintoris either, but he's insane and definitely would start a war for wealth....my biggest regret wasn't joining right out of high school...I'd be through it now.
>>
>>81402130

>>
>>81402130

How is it?
>>
>>81403818
Good mate. Life has never been better to be honest.
>>
>>81397873

As an officer, sure! Great benefits, constant training and education, and lots of interesting work and travel opportunities that you couldn't get on the civilian side (or not without more experience). Regular promotions and a career path ate great too. More sense of camaraderie at work too, civilian side is more competitive and so people are more cutthroat.

If you enjoy life, don't enlist. Do go Air Force or Navy. They have the best base locations and most collegial office cultures. Avoid combat related occupations unless you crave personal growth through hardship and suffering. Or if you just plan on staying in for a short time and want to be able to tell people, "I've seen some shit..." Those occupations are also the most likely to attract assholes as well.

Like with anything, the more hands on research the better. Do ROTC and try to meet as many service members as possible.
>>
>>81402470
correct.

however beware, if doing ROTC it will eat tons of your time during college, and take a few summers.
If you have a hard degree, you will hate it. and might just ask for Guard/Reserves in the end.
a "Real" degree pays better than the military, and no B.S. or people to deal with.

>>81397873

>>
>>81403841
It has its ups and downs as with any job.

Upside: Valuable mechanic experience on a aircraft with has a decently sized civilian work force which companies will usually hire veterans right out of their EAS because they have to spend no time training them. I can earn many certifications that can translate back into the civilian work force as well, such as my forklift operators license. I travel a lot and get to see much of the world. The wing itself is a more relaxed sector of the Marine Corps, so life is a little more easy going speaking in a militaristic sense.

Downs: Long hours,(11-15 hour days) ran ragged, constantly fucked in the ass, usually work the weekends.

All in all though, I wouldn't give this up for anything. I get shitty pay, but considering I have minimal cost of living expenses, I save a lot more than I was back as a civilian. Also, deployment pay is dope.

I want to do ROTC while in college.

I would like to major in Accounting and join the Army Reserves as a Military Police Officer after I complete my degree and ROTC.

Subsequently, I'd like to become a civilian Police Officer.

Would ROTC prepare me for a career as a Police Officer and look good on my resume when I apply to police departments?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Besides, I live off their tax dollars, so everything they say makes me laugh. No one told me to join the military, I did it myself. The choice is yours. That's true, but the benefits actually suck dick when you get out.

No one understands you or anything that you used to do.

The GI Bill is worthless because not even a college degree takes away the veteran stigma.

The VA is broke and understaffed, so you wait three to six months for appointments.

Employers think you're unhinged and unqualified, no matter what your credentials.

You can get a free breakfast at Denny's on Veterans Day, though.

I'm thinking about it too but in Canada; so it's less exciting but safer(?) I suppose?

I'm almost finished a degree in economics with math and I would most likely enroll in the officer program too. I don't see it as such a bad thing like some people on /pol/ do.

It's in part due to the fact that I want to develop the discipline they would beat into you and because I don't really want to do meaningless jobs. I'd rather have a bigger influence in what happens here (as I progress, hopefully).

My point is, it depends on your end goal. Some people here have a negative perception of the army but you need to see if it fits with what you see out of yourself. Personally, I'd first finish college or some trade schooling before applying so you have experience in some things and would know for sure you don't want it.

>For someone targeting a CS Degree would joining the military be a good idea?

Fuck no.

>have no clue on how im going to start my professional life

Military service permanently fucks up your professional life because every resume screener who sees your experience automatically assumes you're a degenerate trigger puller.

Everything you heard about military service making your resume look good is a bunch of premium-grade bullshit.

You'd make less money, and you would have less applicable experience, CS jobs would rather see you work a contract for a year with microsoft or some shit than military. IT would be smarter than military.

The ASVAB is stupidly easy. I was an average student in HS, got mostly Bs with an occasional A or C. I didn't study at all for the and showed up to take the test hungover on 5 hours of sleep and got a 98. If you can tie your shoes without hurting yourself you will get an 80+

Don't make me laugh, kid. If you think you're fucking Rambo, then take a second look at your balls and remember that they're just as tiny as everyone else's.The PMC bubble popped in 2007, so unless you're some faggot Bat Boy, you're not going to get that 12-on-12-off tower guard contract with Academi that pays absolute dogshit.
>>
>>81408802

Also, to answer your question, the higher you score, the more likely your recruiter is going to be willing to help you out and get you any MOS you want. Some recruiters go their entire TDY as a recruiter without seeing a 95+ ASVAB so when my recruiter saw my score he pretty much moved mountains to get me an infantry contract(it's not as easy as pol would have you think, most of the braindead retards go to supply or cooks or shit like that, not the grunts). He's not going to want to risk losing such a high score to another branch that can offer you better opportunities like the Navy/Air Force.

Yes, vet here. Had the time of my life in the military. Just don't be an idiot and sign up for a bonus. Do your 3.5 years, and decide if you wish to stay or not. Enjoy the time you have in service, don't fuck up, don't take anything personal, and DO NOT GET SOMEONE KNOCKED UP. 7/10 service, would do again.
-1 for the bullshit you have to deal with daily, but it's tolerable.
-2 for the shit leadership you have to deal with, completely dependant on your unit.
Other than your typical bullshit and shitty leadership, military is a pretty fun ordeal if you're a U.S citizen.

You better have a high tolerance for bullshit because that is what wartime military is. Going into peacetime, it is going to be even worse.

However, you do get healthcare in one of the shittiest healthcare systems in the world.
You do have the option of getting your schooling paid for.
Depending on where you're applying to, your prior service may benefit you for getting hired. So take a cushy poggy position that'll actually benefit you in the real world.

I feel younger anons still in school have an overly romanticized view of what working in the private sector is going to be like (you're going to be able to choose a job you enjoy, make shit tons of money, work low hours, 2 weeks of vacation, great private healthcare, etc.). The vast majority of college grads won't have sweet lives. There's struggle on both sides.

Having worked in the private sector after college, I find life in the military to be much less stressful because there's more security. I'm able to choose a job I find interesting and that's stable, I know what my pay is going to be like for the next 20 years and approx when I'll get promotions, o know I'm unlikely to be laid off like I would of my company closed or moved to Mexico, I know what my healthcare is going to be like of something goes wrong, I know I'll be able to get another degree or send my kids if I want, if I need a lawyer I can get a good one without losing an arm and leg, and I know what my retirement is going to look like )and there's more).

Also there's a lot of value I associate with doing work that I know is important to my country, and I get to work with people I consider to be some of the best the nation has to offer.

Best job I ever had.

Tldr: There are a lot of intangible values that you need to consider before choosing private employment over government. Private sector can be a roll of the dice which you may not win.

No, in the past 15 years the U.S. military has obviously seen more action than the FFL(though the FFL has been deployed a lot), but I'm talking about global trends and the future. There is always bound to be a rebellion/genocide/civil war in some shitty African country that the FFL has to go clean up. The U.S. military is not going to see as much action in the next decade or so. As I said earlier in the thread, Africa is in the beginning stages of an extreme population boom and the African governments are not capable or equipped to deal with tide of anarchy that is about to sweep to continent. The largest portion of combat in the next 10-15 years is going to go to the FFL and various mercenary groups in Africa(look up STTEP and their work earlier this year in Nigeria for example).

Air Force is the best among the services about considering family circumstances. Short deployments compared to others too. Lots of support networks for wives and employment on base in all kinds of things from medical to education to religious and counseling. Great medical and education benefits for your whole family too so there's less stress.

And when you're deployed most AFBs have WiFi so you can Skype easily with her.
