At any given point in history the greatest language to learn is not the most popular,but the most popular but least spoken by non natives.
So in this case it's a toss up between mandarin and russian, with English being lingua franca already and knowing it meaning just about jack shit in the job market because they expect you to know it by default.

If you've never learned a language or you're not having to learn a language for work: you should TRY and learn Esperanto because it's stupid easy and relatively quick but still accurately mimicks the language-learning process. If you come out of that still with an intent to learn a language and a more accurate pick then you should go for if it - if not, then at least you didn't waste any money and you know your interests better.
